Temple Shalom made clear this week that it is as much a house of politics as a house of worship. And as some in the congregation showed dissension, the dismissal of their concerns or worse, the hostility with which they were treated, proved that promises of providing a “community for all” were just hollow platitudes. Proof of this came in the last-minute announcement that Rick Scott, a candidate for reelection, would be speaking during Erev Rosh Hashana services, leaving little choice for congregants who prefer prayer without politics. In his short speech twenty-or-so minutes into the evening service he offered nothing more than his recap of all he had done for the community, a clear campaign stump speech just 33 days before the election. The proper approach would have been to invite congregants to meet Mr Scott at a meet-and-greet event or candidate town hall on the Temple Shalom campus, not force him on congregants during worship on one of the most sacred holidays of the year. But the true intent and absolute arrogance of temple leadership was reflected in their refusal to reconsider Mr. Scott’s appearance despite, according to Temple President Josh Garfield, a day of fielding calls of protest from members. In fact, Mr. Garfield revealed, even his own wife did not come to the service out of protest. This Erev Rosh Hashana debacle was just more proof of Temple Shalom’s focus on fundraising over faith supported by a congregation that leans more towards elitism and entitlement than unity and...

The only downside is they don’t warm up lunches in the microwave. It makes it difficult for my daughter to eat cold food. I am sure they will improve that in the future. Overall, I really recommend Temple Shalom. If you want multiple teachers and great learning opportunities, this is the...

Please ,if you are soooo oversensitive about politics - that you see politics in everything, find a less hostile way of self expression than giving our home,a place we love, enjoy,a place we come to worship with family and friends a lousy one star review! ...who knows, maybe next time someone...
