I use Rt 14 on the Turquoise Trail for commuting and it is worth the extra time; you see so much of the gorgeous countryside, mountains and small towns with so much to offer such as Cedar Crest, Madrid and Cerrillos . The views are breathtaking.

The route was so good and we were on our way to Santa Fe from Albuquerque and took this route and loved it. There was a small town which was so good.

The other reviewer just had the location wrong. The turquoise trail technically starts up the mountain off of Sandia Crest Rd by Balsam Glade Group Picnic Area. It's difficult to find from that side of the mountain. If you take 165 to Placitas off of I-25, it turns into turquoise trail and ends at Balsam Glade, just down the mountain from Sandia Crest. I have edited the location.

Don't drive your station wagon up this trail in the winter. You will get stuck. I've seen Jeep Cherokees high center on the snow packed road. Our Wrangler with a 3" lift and 35" tires made it just fine.

The trail is beautiful with gorgeous views of the east side of the mountain and valley below. If you go, please don't leave your...

NM 14, or the Turquoise Trail is a great road to ride. Our motorcycle riding group took this road from Santa Fe thru the town of Madrid (Wild Hogs movie fans must stop here) then onto Sandia Crest. Beautiful countryside with so much great...

From Santa Fe going south: Cerillos, Madrid, Golden, Sandia Park, Cedar Crest, Tijeras. More towns if you head west towards Albuquerque. Also, there's an easy access easy-mod hike to excellent petroglyphs. This time of year is usually...
