What an amazing place to enjoy with your family! Billy has done a phenomenal job of collecting, building, organizing, and presenting information in a creative and engaging manner. While it isn't nearly as large of a space as the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, the space has been optimized and everything is presented and organized in a far more engaging manner. We enjoyed this museum far more than the large sprawl at Denver Museum of Nature and Science, and were far more impressed with how engaging information was presented without being overwhelming.
Our two young kids, love dinosaurs, and we came across this place by a local restaurant owner sharing Billy's card with my parents and encouraging us to visit. We visited with our kids during the weekend, and elected to purchase an annual family membership upon entering. We met a wonderful woman and young man who were delightful to interact with. The young man entertained all questions from our kids and imparted some of his knowledge. The value is tremendous for the price, and we feel good about supporting a local museum that deserves growth and attention for bringing more awareness and education combined in a welcoming environment.
We decided to go back on our daughter's birthday during the week, about an hour prior to closure. We met Billy during this trip and he gave our kids undivided attention. Billy engaged with our kids in a manner that most of us only wish we could do. He listened, he made them feel heard, and he taught them all about the various fossils, history, and pictures presented in the museum. He was able to engage both of them in a manner that left them wanting more, and feeling as though they learned about something that interested them from someone who was just as interested in learning and sharing. This experience for our children was truly a self directed educational moment, one any parent would feel honored to be a part of and witness.
We engaged Billy about the future of the museum and what his goals were for expansion, as our kids were very excited for the opportunity to see and learn about more. This place truly deserves attention and donations. The future of expansion to continue teaching, engaging minds of all ages, showing the history of the local area, providing scholarships and mentorship, and having a good time connecting is worthy of your time and money. . We will be going back repeatedly, and were excited to hear about the summer camp Billy runs for young minds to dig in and have an opportunity to be hands on to find their own fossils and connect with the local world around them. We need more places like this and people like Billy and his team who are truly invested in supporting our youth and local communities.
Swing by this place - you won't regret it, and you may be surprised at how much you enjoy it and want to come back again and again! In a world where we can get online in an instant and learn about anything, it's refreshing to engage hands-on, and connect with our surroundings and real people who are passionate...
Read moreI want to respond to some of the other comments about this place first, after having visited yesterday. Yes, this museum is small. And yes, children will probably find more enjoyment out of it than adults. (The fact that it is attached to a school should clue folks into that, but alas.) Regardless, the only reason why an adult should make it through the museum in ten minutes is if you don't take the time to read or learn anything, talk to anyone, let your kids play, or enjoy anything at all... in which case why are you even coming to a museum?
Anyway, I thoroughly enjoyed this museum as an adult and visited it with my friend, who also enjoyed it. We spent about 50 minutes there, but could have easily been there longer. It was a unique museum experience, with fossils either found locally by the creator of the museum, or which are of animals who were local to the area. Very few other places will you get to come face-to-face with the beasts who shared your home with you, curated by a person who genuinely cares and is passionate about sharing what they know with you. There was a volunteer there when we went, and she was very knowledgeable, personable, and kind. She even took the time to ask me about my favorite dinosaur, and when she didn't know about it, we had a conversation, and she looked it up in a dinosaur encyclopedia. If you give this museum a chance, it will make you feel as special as it itself is. I planned a two-day vacation around visiting this museum and I don't regret it, and feel that it was well worth the money and the trip. I am glad to be helping to support a local paleontologist in doing the important work of educating and inspiring others, as well as growing our collective understanding of what came before us and helping to protect and...
Read moreAbysmal. One small room at the back of a school. Couple of complete skeletons. You can walk around it in less than 10 minutes - and it costs $12 for adults and $10 for children. Easily the most overpriced thing I have ever done. Dinosaur National Monument is less than 3 hours away and less than half the price for a family of four.
This is a new venture, only open a month, but it does not deserve to succeed unless it sets more realistic prices.
EDIT: I note that the organisation has taken the time to reply, and I applaud them for doing so. They are right to highlight the intemperate language of my original review, which I have no amended. The original review simply reflected my sheer disappointment in the immediate aftermath of leaving. I applaud any volunteer efforts - but they need to be realistic with setting expectations, and with...
