We purchased a top-of-the-line Maytag MVW7230HC washer and matching dryer from Elgin Electric in Elgin, Oregon. We're 18-months into a $2,000.00 purchase. The dryer works great. The washing machine is junk.
We've already had the washer repaired once as soon as the one-year warranty expired and it has now failed again. Do some Internet research and you'll find this washer has widely-known issues. The machine doesn't allow nearly enough water into the tub to properly wash the clothes. Because of the fact the machine is trying to wash half wet, half dry clothes, there is significant load placed on the motor and agitating parts. Now the machine is making a knocking noise, indicating worn out parts.
The clothes stink and aren't completely clean when the cycle completes. A horribly designed and manufactured product. There are numerous similar complaints about this machine, yet Elgin Electric in Elgin, Oregon continues to sell this junk. When I complained several times to them, their response was "Well, yeah that machine doesn't use much water. Try using the Normal cycle only". So, I bought a heavy duty machine with a heavy duty cycle and I can't use it and that is your solution?
Not only are we out $1,000.00 but now we need to spend another $1,400.00 to buy a Speed Queen commercial washer (with simple mechanical controls and a 7-year warranty), which we should have done in the first place. Nobody is going to buy a used washing machine with known problems, so I guess this one is going to the dump.
When I emailed the owners and voiced my complete dissatisfaction and informed them I will no longer shop at their store, they didn't even bother to respond to my message - that speaks volumes. Just another small-town business with a monopoly that sells what makes them the most profit, and we the consumers suffer. If I owned a business and I discovered a brand/product I was selling was inferior or defective I would stop selling that product and disassociate myself with the brand to preserve my good reputation and business name.
Elgin Electric's pre-sales and delivery service/setup was excellent, but if they are continuing to sell inferior products and have this "it's not our problem" attitude after the sale, then we are no longer customers. I'm done shopping local!

Read moreI recently purchased a Maytag PetPro washer & dryer set from Elgin Electric. This is a warning, if you are considering buying this model to avoid at all cost. It is the worst appliance purchase I have ever made. I take partial responsibility for not having researched the PetPro & read other reviews, which are 95% bad, & state the same issues I’m having. The dryer is ok, but the washer is an absolute nightmare. After trying multiple settings, always deep fill, PetPro on & PetPro off, the washer does not effectively clean any type of wash load. The clothes essentially sit in the same position & never move, with a good portion sticking up out of the water. The fins on the agitator are so high the water never gets high enough for the fins to move the clothes. I end up having to add by hand about 20 gallons of water to the wash & rinse cycles. In addition to it not cleaning clothes, the noise it makes through the entire cycle could probably be heard from outer space, which is very annoying. I called Elgin Electric to share my concern & the somewhat terse response I got was “it sounds like it’s working as intended”, & there’s nothing they can do, but the following week they would send a technician to take a look. Well, a technician never called or came by, & there has been no follow up by the store, which is unacceptable. Based on my experience I will not be buying any other appliances from Elgin Electric, & would not recommend them. It’s clear they do not care about...
