If you're the least bit interested in turbines and green energy, this is a fantastic place - don't miss it! Free admission to the beautiful Renewable Energy Center and free tours daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., plus free coffee (donations accepted for the coffee). If you miss the scheduled tours, you can do a self-guided tour using an informative printout provided at the door or by email.
The views from the Center are worth the trip. Mt. Rainier and Mt. Adams are visible in the distance, and the immediate area has a rugged beauty accented by colors from various vegetation. And the clouds! Magnificent. A truly beautiful setting for the majestic turbines.
I found the Energy Center's displays to be very interesting and informative, maybe because I've always been fascinated by these turbines but never made time to learn more about them. There was enough information to give me a much better understanding of these machines while making me want to learn more.
But the best part was the knowledgeable and personable tour guide. From the minute we stepped through the door until the time we left, Jeannette was engaging, informative and a delight to talk to. Watching her answer questions from children in the group was truly a joy, and her insights into the history of Wild Horse and the technology really made this experience special.
Tips: As others have said, it's easy to find but be aware that after you reach the main entrance it's a three mile drive up the hill to reach the Renewable Energy Center. Plan at least an hour even if you're not planning on taking the guided tour. The scenery and exhibits will probably keep you...
Read moreThank you to Puget Sound Energy for establishing the Wild Horse Renewable Energy Center and making it possible for the public to experience a wind power facility up close. I once tried to visit the Ivanpah Solar Electric facility in California but was met with a rather unfriendly reception. In contrast, Puget Sound Energy not only contributes meaningfully to the production of renewable energy but also shows us that such efforts are truly worthwhile.
The visitor center offers a unique and valuable opportunity to educate the next generation about clean energy. While I understand that maintaining a visitor center in such a location must come at a significant cost, I sincerely hope Puget Sound Energy continues this important work. Opportunities to engage directly with wind power technology are rare, and I encourage more people to visit and experience...
Read moreThis place was awesome, we happened to be in the area and decided to take the long was home from a concert at the gorge. This was for sure worth the drive, it does seem kind of like a road to no where but very pretty and scenic. We are middle aged and really enjoyed the information and history in the center they have! You get to get up close to the wind turbines and it really puts them into perspective of how big they really are. If your lucky you might even get to watch them climb them. Truly a phenomenal experience and I highly reccomend visiting at least once. The weather was awesome, there were plenty of parking spots, and it was not crowded. We went in the middle of june! It...
