I went to buy a few haskap plants a couple weeks ago after emailing and not getting a response. The woman who helped me chastised me for not calling ahead, and said that I was lucky there was someone to help despite their open hours on their website. When I said I had sent an email, she said they haven't been checking it. Alright.
The plants were not super healthy and very dry/crunchy. She said, yeah, they aren't getting enough water.
I bought 4 anyway as I really wanted them for a gift. She checked the roots without telling me what for - mold? Sickness? I finally asked and she said ants and wouldn't say anything else. One of them did actually have ants, so hopefully that plant makes it... Half of the plants she sold me were not labelled with a variety name, so I'm hopeful that they will be able to even bloom at the same time (for pollination). I asked if the plants were easy to propagate and she said she didn't know anything about them. Hmm. It was an awkward, uncomfortable visit.
Additionally, the man of the operation has some serious issues with local businesses that decide to carry jams from other companies. He's written nasty letters to several stores insulting and chastising buyers. These letters are dishonest, hurtful, and very unpleasant to receive. So not a fan of this place or these curt and awkward people. Never going back.
And, if they ever read this, some free business advice: sending unprofessional, ranting, angry letters to local businesses will not get them to carry your product. Be a better salesperson and create a more appealing product, and maybe someone will want to buy it.
EDIT 8/8: The owners sent a letter to me via private email instead of responding publicly to the review. What it said, I do not know, I found it so invasive that they would email without me having given prior consent that I...
Read moreUpdate: I do have to say the Bushes I bought 4 or 5 years ago are doing great even after being chewed to single twigs by cotton tails and being in my alkaline soil all this time I see a beautiful crop on the way.
"Packages" were misleading. I got the Blueberry package; you can get the same thing, and actually choose your own cultivars and buy the proven blueberry mix for less money (and that includes paying for shipping). With the Blueberry Package, they chose the six plants. I only received 2 cultivars (3 of each) and what they chose for me ripen at the same time. Also, one bag of the proven mix wont start 6 plants, but to purchase another tacks on another $25 for shipping so it's like a $50 bag. Im just put off by the fact that the online store brings you to the packages which are not a good deal even by their own offerings. They were great at responding by e-mail until I brought this up. No response so this is mine. I was willing to pay more to support local but I'll shop around...
Read moreCommunication with this nursery is pretty bad. I was promised an order would be ready one week. That week went by. I emailed, called. Nothing. Then our truck had issues and I emailed again about the possibility of them delivering the order and *I had to give an estimate on the drive for them (google does this, of course) and they never responded to my earlier, more pressing emails.
So I rented a truck and just drive there and was met by their more communicative, attentive, younger workers who were great. Even though my order wasn’t ready or in their ‘queue,’ they loaded me up. It did take a while for my order to get all together of course.
In short, they do great work with propagating Vermont-hardy plants, but are almost non-responsive by email and phone, which is pretty important these days with everything being closed to ‘foot traffic.’ They should really think about putting their younger staff on...
