I stopped to walk the dog and to use the restroom. The state had some remodeling going on inside so there were signs directling people inside where the bathrooms were located. It’s a shame people cant read signs because the woman attending to the information portoin of the stop spent 90% of the time politely telling people how to get to the restroom, as she sat a yard from the big white board that says, “Rest Rooms Straight Ahead”. I continues looking through the overwhelming amount of business advertisements, coupons, what you would expect at a state line informatoin booth. In a friendly voice, the attendent asked if there was anythingh she could do to help. We struck up a conversation as I had heard good things about the beaches in Alabama and also knew little of what there was to do in in the state in general. She tookj her time showing me around, making suggestions, telling me of personal expereinces growing up in Alabama. She would excuse herself and pause as each new person came in, saying “Welcome to Alabama, Can I help You” which I thought in this day and age was wonderful! When I went to leave, she was talking to another person, to which she paused and said, “Hold on just one second, is that alright” and raised her voice, “It was a pleasure meeting you, Welcome to Alabaman . I hope you find my state as precious as I do” WOW! What a great expereicne, I didn’t expect this kind of welcome from an State line info center. I wish that I’d remembered her name, middle of the afternoon, and I belive it was a week day. If her co-workers are as friendly as she is, your doing a great service for the state. I’ve ended up spending more time than I anticipated, and went to look at property on the gulf coast in Alabama. I have intention of returning the same way going back and think I might look at retiring in Alabama instead of Florida, the people...
Read moreThis is the Alabama Welcome Center along I-10 West. This welcome center is also called the Baldwin County Welcome Center. It is located just after entering the state from Florida. They are at mile marker 65.8, so in essence, we know that I-10 through Alabama is roughly 66 miles long. My visit here was on August 25, 2022.
The weather on this day wasn't so good. It would be nothing but rain all day long. Making this stop at the welcome center was totally needed to get out of the car for a bit, as well as getting off the rainy roads. It was coming down pretty heavy at times. It was great to get inside, use the restroom, and just check things out on the inside of the building. Due to the rain, I didn't do anything outside there on that visit. Even though it was raining, they do have plenty of open outdoor space here.
The Alabama Welcome Centers have all been very welcoming. The inside of the building was really nice. Let's start with the restrooms. The restrooms were in great shape. They were well stocked and clean. The rest of the welcome center was nice too. Each area of inside was broken down into different parts of the state. They were broken up into the Highlands, Plantation, Wiregrass, and Gulf Coast regions. It was very well organized. When traveling along I-10 West, you will go through the Wiregrass and then the Gulf Coast sections of the state.
Overall, this was a very nice welcome center, which is something I have always experienced for the ones in Alabama. Even in bad weather, it is still worth making the stop to come inside. You can get maps, construction info for the state, and more. The staff there were great as well. If your travels take you into Alabama along I-10 West, you should definitely make...
Read moreCame to this rest stop during the morning today. First off clean bathrooms, though I am not a fan of high stalls. The bathrooms inside the information center was closed but lots of signs and easy to follow to the open bathrooms. Friendly staff and lots of information, easy to get interested in other areas of Alabama. As to for parking, lots of spaces and space for cars and trucks, picnic areas and area to walk your pups. Saw several workers while in the parking lot, which is always a comfort when driving the highways alone! Thanks for the nice stop...
