Eagle Crest is a very fun and challenging golf course and used to be in great shape but sadly that was back in the 1990's. I play the course frequently but it's now it's apparent the owners could care less about the product they put out. The course has deteriorated even more so the past few months. I don't know if that has anything to do with Troon Golf taking over but more so because the owners are too cheap to buy or lease the proper equipment to maintain a golf course. I just played the course yesterday (7/12/21) and it appeared like they are doing no maintenance at all. They have weeds growing around most bunkers aka dirt traps. Two foot tall weeds growing in the middle of several fairways and greens that rolled about 5 or 6 on the stimpmeter. I haven't played on greens that slow for about 40-50 years. They are rarely changing hole placements now and they have no clue on where to place tee markers. Most of the tees are not level but they'll place the markers where you don't even have a level lie to tee the ball. The superintendent and his crew must know nothing about golf at all based on the way they set the course up. These owners should just sell the course to someone who actually knows something about golf and cares about putting out a good product. The owners and superintendent should be ashamed with the condition of the course but obviously they have no problem having it look like a cow pasture. If the greens were good I would still support the course even with all the weeds growing everywhere and some barren fairways but as it stands now they'll have to pay me to play the course. I would rather go to Native Oaks up the road and pay 50% more to play a much better conditioned course. Troon took over Native Oaks (formerly Woods Valley GC) a few months ago so we'll see if the course condition suffers there as well. Eagle Crest could be so good. It's too bad the owners don't feel the same way.
PS. to the owners...don't bother replying with this weak response: "Thanks for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear we disappointed you. Your comments will be shared with the rest of the team." If you were actually sorry you would invest the money it takes to put out a...
Read moreA nice course tucked away on the bottom of the mountain and surrounded by homes. Condition of the course can be a little better and they should be able to do the job with the amount of crew I saw on a Tuesday morning. The one star review is for quality of service and lack of care and common sense. Here's my experience:
I tee off at 6:30 solo because family is sleeping in at Harrah's Rincon. The front 9 was smooth but a horrible experience with back 9... sprinklers are on full blast starting at hole 13 thru hole 17. I call the pro shop and informed them about the situation and the staff tells me a crew is a little preoccupied and will be there soon to turn off the water. Ok, I'm good with that. I tee off at 14 and I'm waiting for the sprinklers to be turned off so I can hit my 2nd shot. I wait, wait, wait but water is still on. I call the pro shop again and ask about the sprinklers and the response I got was unbelievable. To paraphrase the guy... he basically said it is what it is... just skip a few holes and we can credit you for back 9. WTH!!! Right about now I'm wet, my cart is wet, my bag is wet... i'm livid and stuck! I pick up my ball while getting wet and drive to the next hole cause I'm trying to finish and get back to hotel but I can't drive thru the course because the damn sprinklers are on everywhere. The picture I posted doesn't do justice. I think that was hole 15 and I was literally stuck because of the sprinklers. I wait, wait, wait for the water to turn off but of course the sprinklers kept going. I manage to zig zag my wait through and finish my round while avoiding getting more wet. To add, common courtesy for the course crew is to quiet down when someone is around the green and especially a player is putting. But, common sense is not so common here. I forget the hole number but I am putting for a birdie and this guy on law mower get closer and closer to the hole while I'm lining up for the putt. You gotta be kidding me!!! I could have taken the opportunity to voice my frustration but I figured it was pointless and told myself I would write a review when I'm back home so here it is.
One positive I take from the experience was the drive...
Read moreI’m a relatively new golfer. I’ve been playing for about a year now. I know a little about the history of this place because a buddy of mine played here when it was Eagle Crest, pre-covid. I haven’t played a lot of courses yet. So far I’ve played Oaks North, The Fountains at The Welk, Twin Oaks, Mt Woodson and now Dos Osos. Give this course a year or so and this course will be miles better than the other courses I’ve played. The fairways were in rough shape, but I know they’re still repairing everything. I’d say the fairways were still in very acceptable shape though. The greens looked great, and played slower than I’m used to, but I found putting on slower greens a lot more satisfying because then you put a little more power on your putts. But what really stands out on this course is the layout. The layout is so much fun, and fairly forgiving. The course is located in a gated community, so pay attention to the booking email for the gate code. The staff was also the friendliest of all those other places I’ve played. I took a star away because I do feel like $79 is a little much when the fairways are still being worked on. That being said, I’d still pay $79 to play here vs $100 at Mt Woodson. Regrettably I didn’t take any photos to assist people with this review, but if $79 isn’t too much for you, this...
