I was halfway up the mountain. Hadn’t seen another person all afternoon. When I realized I watched a True Crime Documentary that happened on this trail 😅 Would you keep going? Trail details (SAVE for later): 🦌 Deer Mountain, Rocky Mountain National Park 🦌 6 miles & 1,400 ft elevation gain 🦌 Hike through pine forests with incredible views of the valley to get to the peak of this little mountain 🦌 In winter always bring traction. And be prepared for harsh wind. 🦌 No restrooms at trailhead so plan accordingly 🦌 The true crime documentary is called “Wild Crimes” on Netflix if you wanna watch it before hiking 😅 Overall this was a fantastic winter hike with a sprinkling of creepiness because of its history. What do you think… would you hike here? So this is my 1st trek up and down deer mountain. Its a mostly uphill hike of 3 miles to a beautiful view of the surrounding rockies and towns. Its quite scenic with views along the trail with low to medium height of trees and shrubs, quite rocky as well. 3 miles back down is much easier to navigate. I'd prefer to see a lake, stream or river along the way, there is not and I like loop trails better than up and down hikes. There also a handful or horse dropping locations to avoid. Quite a narrow path with moderate traffic too. These reasons are why 4 stars. This is a very good 4 star trail, try it out.

We stayed in Moraine Park Campground for 4 days. Deer mountain is our last half day hiking. It is s a nice mountain hiking. About 6 miles up to summit and down. It is not a hard mountain hiking if you hike in mountain a lot. The trail is in good status for climbing up and down. You can have a great view about the rock mountain in summit or half way. But the view is relatively same all the way. I give it 3 star as I don't think it is a special mountain trail if you have already hiked in different mountains in US or other countries.

Such a terrific hike! It was more than one meter snow depth on upper part of trail if you go off trail. It took 5hours reaching 3053m summit, well now it is one foot higher as we piled up two rocks there. :) Majestic view on top wiped off all tiredness. We thought to take short cut downhill but got lost and we kept following foot steps on the snow until my son questioned was that human's foot prints? and it was already dark. :) We found furs and pooh from animal. It was such...
