We stayed in moraine park campground 4 nights. This trail is our first half day hiking. We started from longs peak trail head to the Estes cone and then got down. The elevation is about 9400 feet. U might feel headache or hard breath if you are not getting used to this level elevation. We didn't go chasm or longs peak as it looks too challenging for us in the first day. The beginning trail is in the forest and view is a little bit boring and it becomes more interesting when you started climbing. The climbing is about 600 meters. It is not easy but not very hard as the trail is good. U just needs right hiking shoes. On the top of Estes cone, you can view the mountains around. It is fantastic. It worth to check it out if you like mountain and have half day only.

You just couldn’t ask for a better day. I started out around 10 in the morning. I made the turn towards Estes Cone and was able to go quite the distance in just boots and micro-spikes. Once pacing the Mine I went and put on the snowshoes. The snow got deeper. Then I started working up a sweat. I took off on jacket and made it up to the rock base. Then the wind started blowing hard and it got cold. I got up there at noon. Tried taking some pictures, but the wind keep missing with the pictures. I got down at 5.

Awesome hike! My friend and I had to carve a new trail most of the way and it was exhausting but fun. Great views and a small rock scramble when on top. You can see Long's Peak and keyhole, makes for some awesome pics. Moderate hike, without snow the difficult part is the last mile with a moderate climb.

A great ‘starter’ climb when low altitude travelers visit the Rockies. Will still get your blood pumping though and the views of the divide and the peaks to the east are incredible. Pay attention to how you got up the rocks close to the top though or you might be like us and lost the path coming down. We ended up just hiking straight down the East side of the mountain until we finally hit the crossing trail closer to the main hwy. ...
