Now, this is a place to go to. It’s close to town easy to climb and the view is second to none. I think Spencer's Butte, called Rattlesnake Mountain by the Kalapuya, is a legendary day hike. Some days you can rise above the clouds up there. Other days you will practically see to the coast, though not quite. There is some poison oak to watch out for at the summit, but pretty easy to spot. Visitors will enjoy the 360° view in which Eugene and Springfield look like a map. There are a variety of trails on which you can go around up and down and in and out of this place. So, get some water pack a snack, bring some tea if it’s winter time, and watch all the locals going up and down and having a good old time feeling the burn. I recommend going up the steep side and potentially not going down the steep side. Really fun to get out and not have to drive all day....
