Although I've lived in Evanston for 5 years, I had never been to Aspen Cinemas until recently. First-hand accounts of a decrepit building with a leaky roof, uncomfortable seats and an audio-visual system hanging on for dear life were enough to keep me reliant upon the occasional trip to Ogden and my Netflix subscription to see the latest flicks. Fortunately, the facility was recently sold and renovated, opening just in time for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." We went to see it on New Year's Day and all I can say is "wow, what a difference!" The lobby, restrooms and waiting areas were immaculately clean and procedures streamlined. You purchase tickets and snacks at the same counter. I particularly like that you can also pre-purchase tickets and reserve your seats online if you prefer. The movie viewing area consists of 6 mid-size theatres (vs. 2 or 3 huge ones), all equipped with padded, reclining seats. You find your spot with a metal row guide on the floor, then lit numbers on your individual seat. Oh yes, those seats. They are THE BOMB! You can lean back, yet still have enough room for other patrons to pass in and out with plenty of room. If I hadn't been engrossed in the movie, I might have fallen asleep, they're that comfortable. The only issue we encountered was with the LED sign board advertising the various snack and drink combos. The one we were interested in consisted of 2 drinks, a popcorn and a candy. The signboard depicted Junior Mints, and that's what we wanted to get, but we were told that since that was a large candy, it was not included in the package. The clerk on duty refused to allow for an exception. He was not rude about it, by any means, but didn't seem eager to come up with a compromise either. In all fairness, there was a line. However, I did bring the situation to the attention of the owners afterward via Facebook, and they replied within 24 hours, promising to get the sign changed. Will we be back? Absolutely! Probably when "Star Trek: Beyond" comes out. All in all, the new Aspen Cinemas is a fantastic and long overdue addition...
Read moreEmily and her new crew at aspen cinemas is more then pleasant to work with. They are respectful, honest, curtious, well dressed, clean, and timely. They work well together as a group. Moving on to the facility. It's awesome. Sure it's not a huge megaplex theatre but it's not intended to be. It's a medium sized town. It fits in perfectly. The temperature in each theatre was nice. The big lazy boy style seating is soft but not firm, inviting, and even reclines. Yes this cut the seating down so get your Tickets beforehand on line. The flooring is new, new walls, new ceeling, new sound, clean bathrooms, nice screens (the list goes on) The facility is not huge but again, still the right size. Lots Of parking and the snow is kept clear. One question always asked is price. Well, it's cheaper then Utah and just perfect by my standards. Ticket prices are good, consessions are good. This new place has everything but a good restaurant close (not their fault by any means!!). My family and I will always visit...
Read moreWent to watch a movie with my 5 year old but could not enjoy the show due to another parent and their kids running around the theater, talking loudly throughout the show whether it was a loud or quiet scene and climbing and jumping on the seats right next to us. On top of that, the mother of these kids was messing with her phone the whole time and the screen was bright almost like the flashlight was on. An employee came by to give a customer their food in the row in front of us and walked right by her while she was on her phone and said nothing, walking to the customer and back out of the theater, nothing. I get that the behaviors in this is not the theaters fault but because they did nothing to stop it from disrupting others around, is. Also, not very clean, we saw a lot of trash under the seats in front of us and in between our seats, makes you wonder what crawlers are lurking in...
