For such a popular location, it would be helpful to have more parking since it seems fills up regularly by late morning. After a long drive, arrivals can be disappointed with no place to park. However, some great shuttle services are available once you park to get to the key areas. We found that we did need to make our own space for a picnic lunch. We were prepared with a blanket and packed lunch, but perhaps some to tables or even a covered area to enjoy prior to or following some half day trail hikes. Estimated to be between 2,200 to 2,700 years old, General Sherman is a giant sequoia tree, located at an elevation of approximately 7000 feet above sea level, in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park, California.
There are shuttles that operate seasonally from the Giant Forest parking lot to the trail head. The trail itself is paved. It takes about 15 to 20 mins, one way, from the drop-offpoint to where General Sherman is located. There is another route that is accessible as well.

Read moreYes: there are 3 tiered parking lots at the General Sherman Tree Trailhead, and that is by necessity for this popular spot; but if you come here during the summer, you likely will have a hard time finding an available spot. I was here in late August on a Thursday (thinking families with kids are back in school mode, but tourists from other countries are heavy in August), and I had to drive through all three parking lots before finding the only one open spot at the top end of the top (3rd) lot.
