TL;DR Sequoia National Forest is not the same place as Sequoia National Park, and each has it's own set of regulations, so be aware of where you're at when visiting. This review is for the National Forest.
Under a different jurisdiction from the adjacent National Park, the Sequoia National Forest offers a well maintained nature experience with more relaxed rules. The dispersed camping rules offer unpermitted overnight opportunities for people on more spontaneous adventures, especially those who can navigate the somewhat rough forest roads and prefer undeveloped camp sites. The rangers in the Park can provide you with a handout detailing the rules, which are more or less common sense. Fire permits can be obtained online. Campers should remain aware of the jurisdictional boundaries between the Forest and the adjacent Parks as rules are much more stringent within the Parks and are enforced. The trees in the forest aren't quite as spectacular as those in the Park, which means fewer tourists. That being said, there is a lot of natural beauty to be enjoyed in this less visited area.

Some of the roads are closed for winter. So if you go in winter be aware of that. This is a great place to bring the whole family. This Park is also a great place to take lots of pictures. Read moreThis was on my bucket list and for my 50th birthday I decided to visit the park. It surpassed my expectations; it feels so magically being surrounded by those magnificent sequoia trees. I stayed for 5 nights at the Wuksachi hotel because I wanted to be close to everything. It was so worth it; beware on the weekend it was pretty crowded.
