My black lab, Maestro Bunsen has stayed at Beyond the Paw multiple times over the last year when we would go out of town. They have always been great with him. Maestro was scheduled to stay there again for about 3 weeks in June (2025). After he was there for almost 2 weeks one of the owners, Peggy, called me and let me know she was a little concerned about Maestroâs breathing and asked if it was normal for him. I knew he had some laryngeal paralysis going on and he pants a lot and gags because of it. I told her and Kenneth to limit his activity and try to keep him as calm as possible because when he gets excited his breathing gets worse. So they separated him from the excitement and Kenneth video called me the next morning so I could see his breathing. It looked a little concerning so I told him we may need to get him checked out by his vet. My family was out of state at the time, and we couldnât get to him. Kenneth took him to the vet and stayed with him while they gave him oxygen. He was blue and had to be sedated and stabilized. Then Kenneth transported him to the MedVet facility where Maestro was again blue and not oxygenating. They had to sedate him and intubate him. The vet called us and it was not looking good for our almost 12 year old fur baby. Ultimately the best decision was to euthanize him while he was already sedated so he wouldnât be struggling to breathe. Kenneth stayed at MedVet the whole time. He sent me pictures on the way to the vet and stayed in contact with me. Kenneth and Peggy did absolutely everything they could do to help save my pup and they were heartbroken when he didnât make it. They gave us a huge discount on the resort fee and took care of our baby until the very end when we couldnât be there. I HIGHLY recommend this resort! They love these animals as they were their own, and I cannot thank them enough for everything they did for us! Iâm so sorry they had to deal with this impossible situation with sweet Maestro, but Iâm so glad...
Read moreI meant to put a review a couple of months ago and never got around to it. This groomer is AMAZING. So so so kind and they genuinely love animals.
I got my dog from an animal shelter and he was severely matted. I brought him in thinking I had done it. I called and they told me to come in the same day so they can see how bad it was. They said theyâd do everything in their power not to shave him because itâs terrible for their coats.
I called the animal shelter and they said theyâd shave him for no charge but it wouldnât be pretty. I brought him in and they informed me there was no way I couldâve done that much damage in two weeks. They felt sorry for my dog because the matting was so bad. They also told me not to trust any groomer that said they would just shave or de mat them (several did and it was more expensive) that it was not healthy for the dog.
They scheduled him ASAP that weekend. The groomer even blocked off the rest of her day in case he had fleas so they wouldnât have to send him home. They also worked around him not having his rabies vaccine yet.
The first day she called after 3 hours and said âEnzo is done for today and we donât want to push him itâs been a lot of work. Heâs been amazing but we want to make sure he wants to come back. Come back tomorrow no extra charge.â
They spent a total of 6 hours and saved his coat. They didnât even charge me extra for the dematting and said they were happy to help. I am so grateful I found them. Pictures are before and after! They also showed me what brushed to get, how to use them, and advice for...
Read moreDisappointed! Ive been taking my 3 shihtzus here for years. The youngest, Jingles, just over a year old has a coat that is truly a pain. I work on her mats but they are super difficult to control. Some of the groomers are uncertain of what to do with her. She was shaved bald, tail and all and finally when her coat grew out still with mats close to the skin in areas, the next groom, appointment, the girl just bathed her and then as I was leaving, commented, "oh I could have done just a little shorter than 1/2 inch. I just couldn't do 1/2 inch, mentioning that when she was shaved, they used a 9 (so it wouldn't be that awful bald look.) Depending on who you get, they may not have the best judgment. Brings me to today; its been several weeks, Settled into new house and called for groom or tidy-up. My baby's hair is of course really long at this point since they sent her home with just a bath. The girl says I will have to pay $25 deposit because I mentioned possibly going to another groomer. What possible reason is there for that? I realize Jingles was a challenge, and I'm further away, so I was thinking of trying another groomer. Now I will definitely NOT be going back! How rude! Also, make sure you are at their beckon call! In the process of moving, I missed her call. One girl literally said to me, "I know you don't like to answer your phone, but..." again, rude. Just wanted to leave them for a haircut without so...
