Hinckley General Store — Local services in Fairfield

This is the quintessential small town general store. If you're looking for an Irving, or Cumberland farms you are certainly in the wrong place. From the slanted floors to the at times low ceilings, nobody comes here for the store's engineering feats or aesthetics. The door is located directly next to the register, which can make it awkward during busy times.

I'm grateful that in about five minutes and $8 I was able to get a freshly made sandwich to order with a decently sized water bottle. The service was very friendly and quick, you can tell the folks working here know their stuff. There are also minor customer-oriented touches that show that the owners actually care about their customers. Most stores of this type have a large hand-written sign stating that there is a minimum transaction to use a card; none here. There are local photos strewn across the store. There's a picnic bench away from the store under some trees.

While I don't have reason to come by here often, this store will probably be where I spend my lunch money. The food I had was great, service was great and it seems like there are some...

Through all the daily travel I have found that prices of hot food have been climbing much like everything else in today's economy... I cannot say the same for this store, today I stopped there as a treat for my passengers and I knowing they've always had good food. I was very very pleasantly surprised to see how much further my money went there over everywhere else I've been in the last few years!! And they have not sacrificed quality to meet that demand either!!! I will be probably changing my daily commute to stop there at least once a day...

I stopped he routinely in the morning because I drive a big truck and I sometimes just take a day trip to Massachusetts and back and I stopped at the Hinckley store in the morning and grab myself a Dagwood for lunch.
