My friend and I were shopping for paintings to go in my new home. When we walked in, two women were near the door. They looked at us like we were impostors but spoke a mild and not-so-welcoming greeting. As we shopped, we were completely ignored. I saw a few pieces I was absolutely interested in, but at that point felt like an inconvenience to the woman who remained. When we opened the door to leave, she never looked up. The door is squeaky, so it was obvious we’d opened it. I said. “Thank you for allowing us to browse” to which she didn’t respond nor look up. I spoke up, “Ma’am! Thank you for letting us look around!”. She finally looked up, without a smile replied with something dismal like you bet or sure. When left to assume, I assume my money isn’t welcome where I’m clearly not. I hope the artist that’s beautiful work lines the shop’s walls isn’t dependent upon the sale of her work there.
