I don’t know if I have words that match the feelings to truly express my gratitude for the opportunity you gave Maya this summer. She loved loved LOVED Aloha. When I picked her up on the last day, her first words were “please sign me up again so I don’t miss out on a spot”. The three weeks she spent in this magical camp, she was allowed to safely be who she is. Her words … “I just didn’t feel any pressure.” Three weeks of building confidence and 'I CAN' by learning how to build a fire, testing outdoor survival skills, and creating beautiful art by throwing clay on the wheel...three weeks of sleeping in a platform tent to appreciate the beauty of the crisp air, the wonder of sleeping under the stars, the rise and fall of the sun...three weeks of feeling safe enough among a group of girls to shed the outer layers of fear to shine her light by experiencing inclusivity, happiness for each other's successes, and hugs and encouragement in times of failure. Just to name a few. She had that all, and it was beautiful....

The skills I've learned at Aloha range from how to kayak, dive, row crew, throw pottery, confront issues, and be a better friend. Even though it seems cliché, my camp self is my best self. I can't imagine my life without the Aloha experience every summer-- sleeping in tents, wearing green and white, and living at the will of bugle calls. Coincidentally the things which made me hesitant to attend Aloha my first summer are the things I love the...
Read moreMy daughter had a wonderful summer last year, returning after a two-year hiatus after having spent five summers there. She was unsure about going back after being away but decided she wanted to take a chance because she missed camp. From the moment she arrived everyone from the director to the campers welcomed her and made her transition back to camp seamless. She initially signed up for a half session but by the second week asked to stay for the full summer! Aloha is a camp that truly lives its mission. I can't think of a better gift then the confidence a girl gains at Aloha, learning to be both self reliant and live as a member of a strong and empowering community. I am so happy that she returned to camp and will never have any regrets that she missed out when...
