I'm from the DC area and have long fancied myself a hoagie aficionado. I wasn't expecting a great hoagie from a small general goods store abutting a state park in a wild part of Pennsylvania, so imagine my surprise at how good their "regular" (re: "Italian") hoagie was. First, it has the classic architecture a good sub/hoagie should ordinarily have: meat and cheese on the outside, forming a protective pocket to hold the crisp and juicy textures of the lettuce, tomatoe, and onion (and oil and vinegar) within. (The chain sub shops all miss this crucial point.) But the Red Rock Corner Store went well beyond this: they curl the meats (you have to go to Red Rock to find out what this means, alas) in such a way that an additional texture is added to the mix, and they also use generous portions of very crisp, sweet lettuce, not so shredded as to be a mere afterthought but one of the most important features of the sandwich and they add, on top of all that, thick slabs of artisanal tomatoes, as dark...
Read moreI used to enjoy this store, didn’t mind too much paying the higher prices for a rustic family owned business, but I won’t be going back after tonight. We were the only customers in the store when we walked in. Ordered two 1/2 subs, grabbed some munchies, and asked to purchase launch permits for our kayaks. Apparently only one person working was capable of making sandwiches and issuing launch permits, while the other two ran the one register. More customers walked in. We waited about half an hour, while they waited on every other customer that walked in after us, only for us to be told that she’s simply too busy to help us and we should probably just go elsewhere. So we did. And from now on, I will....
Read moreHorrible customer service! I am a local resident. I prefer to support local businesses but I will no longer support this store. I went there just before 5:30 for a hoagie. Was told they stop making hoagies at 5:30. The lady would not make the hoagie because she started cleaning up already. When questioned about the time she became argumentative. It is the busy season. They need to either increase their hours or hire more people. They are no longer the only store near the park. I’ll be going to Dollar General just down the road from them for my basic needs. For hoagies and food I’ll be going into Benton. I will never spend any money in this...
