Platte Ranch — Local services in Fairplay

Mid December 2023 review We enjoyed this place so much during the fall (review below) that we came back during our ski trip to do a family ride with Amy and her wranglers who did an excellent job and made the ride and conversation enjoyable and fun. We did a two hour ride in the snow on a sunny but cool day. It was nice to be able to ride to your comfort level and work on your horsemanship, which mine was a little rusty, but the wranglers don’t mind or give you a hard time. It was a memorable time for my family and all enjoyed it a lot. If you are going to be in the area call ahead and do a ride. Prices are great and the experience is top notch.

Early October 2023 review Took my family to see the horses even though we didn’t have a ride scheduled and the owner (Amy) was super nice and accommodating to let my children pet the horses and give them treats and just hang out with us and chat for a while about the ranch and what they do there. They take in and keep rescue horses in addition to the trail rides and keep them there to live out their lives. It is a family owned ranch and not a corporate enterprise and you can tell because the people treat you and the animals well and are happy you are there. We will definitely be coming back to do...

This past weekend I took a solo vacation to Fairplay, CO and went on a two hour ride with Platte Ranch. I’ve been riding my entire life and it’s always been a dream of mine to ride in the mountains. When I’d called and talked to Amy (the owner) about making a reservation she was so helpful and extremely nice. I told her I was a very experienced rider and she promised they’d match me with a horse I would enjoy riding. When I arrived at the ranch Amy introduced me to my horse Bella and we were the perfect match!! Our guides that day were Jill, Josh and Mike all three of them were very accommodating and so very nice. They chatted with all the riders during the entire ride, once we got to the top of the mountain they took pictures of everyone and told us about the history of the ranch and the surrounding areas. We got to ride around the top of the mountain for a bit before we started our decent. Once we got to the bottom Mike gave us the option of which way we wanted to go back to the barn.

I came here years ago, and someone today just asked me for a Recommendation and I realized they deserve even more accolades! I've taken horseback riding lessons for 2 years and probably been on 10 or so trailrides in the past. Platte Ranch is by far the best horseback riding expereince I've ever had, no hyperbole. They actually didn't want the horses to walk head to tail in a line like I'm used to in touristy areas, which was so fun! You could also canter or run if you were comfortable! It felt so freeing and definitely more fun than your average boring slow trail walk on horses. Oh and i didn't even mentioned it rained the ENTIRE time and it was still a blast. They had jackets we could borrow, but i would come prepared next time with my own gear. The trail was gorgeous and it was fun watching how much fun the dogs have too!

I can not recommend this place more. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! in the future, when I live in Hartsel, i'll take lessons here and come...
