I'm sure it's a wonderful place to go and have drinks, but the services rendered (or not rendered) were sub par. For the past two years, I have had my bridal shower scheduled to be hosted at The Schoolhouse because I loved the ambiance of the downstairs bar and outdoor patio. Last year, we chose to postpone due to the pandemic but immediately selected another date in July of 2021. The woman we worked with (Gail) was unresponsive on bad days and rude on good ones. She repeatedly asked if we wanted to select another date, refused to answer our questions and made us feel unwelcome. After much headache and deliberation, we decided to go another route and emailed to cancel our party. We were immediately met (finally) with a response, and the reminder that we would not receive a refund. Sure, we understand that, you have a business to run. What we do not understand is why there has been an update to their online calendar (which I have been monitoring) almost immediately following our final interaction that obtained a new event on the same day. They must have an issue with double booking. I feel forced out of what we had wanted, but we will make the most of it.
Update: I received a message from Gail (months after my initial review), stating that she wanted to discuss the "clear misunderstandings" that occurred. She was at first very nice and apologetic, which was appreciated and met with a pleasant attitude. Her tone turned quickly to her accusing me of slander and treating me like an imbecile. I understand her frustration with my unhappy review, as it is a small business and they rely on good word of mouth, but do not reach out to me asking to talk it over and then insult me. She said, verbatim, "Rude and unresponsive are not terms that anyone would use to describe me." And not 5 minutes later, "are there any other adjectives you wanna throw at me?" No we're done here.
As to your response, Gail. I wish there was falsehood in my statements, as we also looked at Google reviews before coming to view the space. I also sincerely hope that future guests/clients are met with more...
Read moreWe gave a beautiful baby shower for our daughter at the Schoolhouse. Unfortunately after submitting our deposit things changed due to Covid 19 restrictions. We could no loner use the building & had no choice but to use their outdoor tent or loose the deposit. Since we couldn't be inside the Schoolhouse due to a controled number of people allowed, we were charged an additional price increase to use the tent. It was never our original intent to use this tent and didn't feel we should be penalized with an extra charge. Be aware, the venue cost is for the use of the building only. It doesn't include any tables or chairs or anything else. Many venues normally include a number of tables & chairs with a cost for additions. It was upsetting enough to get an extra charge for the use of the tent, but it didn't end there. There was another added price increase that was very upsetting & made absolutely no sense. We were told we could set things up and start decorating the night before since there weren't any events that evening. The morning of the event we were slapped with an additional 300.00 charge for the 3 hrs we spent preparing & decorating the night before. Although the staff members were very nice & accommodating, we were extremely disappointed with these other issues. I can not recommend the Schoolhouse for any function due to the business practices of the...
Read moreGorgeous Place - Great Staff - Very Reasonable ! We hosted a baby shower at the Schoolhouse on 8/22/20 - it truly was a dream come true! Gail and the staff at The Schoolhouse are exceptional. The venue is beautiful. The grounds are meticulous - the perfect combination of greens, florals, and stone. The Schoolhouse and Tavern are rustic and charming, but with luxurious touches such as hand towels in the bathrooms, gorgeous lighting, and music throughout. The schoolroom has multiple chalkboards, we used the chalkboard artist that Gail suggested, and the artwork was beautiful, the perfect touch to our event. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our guests were taken care of, they truly treated us like family. The contract is very clear, outlining exactly what is included and what is not, and Gail worked with us on every detail. The venue was more than accommodating in the wake of COVID, setting up a large tent outside, and suggested a flow that would meet the new mom's wishes, the social distancing requirements, and provide a great experience for the guests. The guests RAVED about their experience - from the beautiful venue to the service, and the mom-to-be said it was more the she ever dreamed - a fairytale! I truly can't say enough good things about this place, and HIGHLY...
