Actively Stay Away at All Costs
The english language is not capable of encapsulating how bad of an experience this field of grass run by escaped nursing home residents is.
If anyone is reading this and is visiting Charlotte or looking for an affordable place to play, I will personally subsidize your round to not play here. Just message me.
First, the good-ish: The course itself is fine, average layout, challenging at times. The staff (cart maintenance, greens keeping, range attendees) are actually fantastic. I'm sorry you have to work here. snacks are cheap
Second, everything else: You would think coming to a golf course and offering currency to play golf would be a seamless experience. Alas dear reader, at charlotte national it is akin to asking a mute to sing the national anthem. Range balls will put you back at least $206: $6 for the bag, $200 for a new wedge Be prepared to repeat a question 5 times as the requirement to be a pro shop employee is being born before WW2. Just mean people. Advice: if you have the misfortune of playing here: Do not make eye contact, do not speak, and whatever you do, at all costs, do not ask about golf. Jimmy Buffet is their god. Please just be a Jimmy Buffet museum and stop LARPing as a golf course.
It's quite sad. It's a great location and has the potential to be a fun track. I will revisit when the regime of elderly malcontents passes on.
Disclaimer 1: I will back these statements face to face, I am not an internet troll. I would have done it already but administration cannot process complex sentences.
Disclaimer 2: Reiterating I will pay for your round at a different Charlotte course to save you the misfortune of the Charlotte National Experience.
Here's to a world where golf is a source of joy and not a catalyst to spend 20 minutes writing a review into the void to feel catharsis.
Godspeed, reader. Hit...
Read moreIts hard to rank since this was my first full 18 rounds of golf. I really enjoyed the greens and was very fun to experience a full round of golf. If this was your first time going here I would recommend doing 9 holes one day and 9 holes the next before doing a full 18. The layout is not as friendly for someone whos never played a full round of golf.
Our group got lucky and they we had a single joing our trio that was experienced with the course, otherwise we would be slow to read where holes were and the layout of the greens. We would slow everyone down and it could cause delays for other golfers making them frustrated.
Things that would make them 5 stars and better for a new player to the course-
The golf path can have better signage of directions for holes.
The hole summary at the start of the hole was hard to read and extremely weathered. Looked like it hadn't been updated in months.
They had sandwiches pre made and hamburgers and fries to order. I ate the tuna with fries and my friend got the turkey. The sandwich came with ruffles. I wasnt a fan of ruffles. The fries were really good. The tuna sandwich was nothing over the top.
Looking forward to...
Read moreI was a little apprehensive to golf here as my experience with the Pro Shop to make a tee time was a little rough. They asked me what time I liked to play, but not knowing their schedule, just asked for a morning slot. I was repeatedly asked for a time, so I said 8am. Then the guy blurted out, "we do tee times every 14 minutes and I've got an 8:14 and 8:28." Was that so hard to say the first time? Once there, however, everyone seemed nice and welcoming.
The course itself is in pretty decent condition. The roughs are a little thick for this caliber of club, and if they'd like for guests to finish a round in less than 5.5 hours, they should probably trim them down a bit. Fairways and Greens were in decent shape except for 3 or 4 greens on the back nine. They should consider closing these off and re-seeding them, or perhaps keeping people away from the bad spots with different pin placements. Overall, a good layout and I'd play here again...
