Incredible Experience!

On separate occasions, I participated in the Introduction to Blacksmithing and Small Knife making classes. In both instances, I found Bill to be approachable, friendly and knowledgeable. He was very attentive and observant without being overbearing. This gave me the confidence to work on my piece (as a complete beginner) and have a sense personal accomplishment once it was complete without ever feeling unsafe. To add onto this, Bill also explained and demonstrated tool usage and safety measures. Throughout the whole process he was patient and open to all my questions and clarifications. Whether it be me looking for confirmation on how to do a process, asking why a certain process was done or me trying to understanding (conceptually) how you move metal in various ways. Bill was very generous with sharing his knowledge and experiences.

I am glad that I found Pocono Valley Forge as I enjoyed the intimacy of the small class (one-on-one) experience and the environment was professional but relaxed, it was a workshop that felt like it was actually worked in (which I like). I would definitely recommend and take another class here...

My husband and I had such a wonderful experience at Pocono Mountains Forge. This was a gift to him as he wished to have a blacksmith/forge experience and I'm so glad that we found PMF!!

Bill and Jenny were so welcoming and we instantly found ourselves amidst great company and conversation. Bill's knowledge and experience of his craft translates so well through his instruction. He is both kind and patient so that you never feel rushed. He also empowers you at the same time if you feel your confidence slipping in your ability to create and finish a piece.

The art and craftsmanship of forging and blacksmithing takes a certain kind of love and dedication to the trade - with years of building upon your knowledge and talent. All of the above is evident when you step inside Pocono Mountains Forge and work alongside Bill.

We had so much fun that we wished we could have stayed longer. We'll definitely be back to visit the forge again and very much look forward to...

I took my first class with Bill in early March and it was an absolute blast. The instruction was 1 on 1 with Bill working on one anvil and I worked on another. He would do a step then I would follow. I found him to be extremely patient and very knowledgeable. I so thoroughly enjoyed the experience that immediately after I got home I ordered a small propane forge and anvil.

Fast forward 3 weeks and I am back for the small knife class. It is a full day class. Starting with just a piece of steel Bill guided me through every step to making a knife. Forging, quenching grinding, handle shaping etc. In the end I had a knife I had made with my own two hands that I am very proud of. In both classes, safety was always stressed first and foremost both in the instruction and by providing the appropriate safety equipment when needed.

All said, I would definitely recommend these classes. And have done so to all...

I can't say enough good things about Bill & Pocono Mountains Forge! I went into the experience intimidated & completely unsure of whether I could actually blacksmith anything, but excited for the potential. Bill went above & beyond any expectations I could have had! He was patient, he made the day really fun, and made it easy for us to succeed. We are so hooked! Something I learned is that it's mostly about technique, not necessarily brute force - so I was able to pick things up a lot more easily than I anticipated. We look forward to booking more classes with Bill, and maybe setting up a home forge of our own someday...because now we know we can! If you're on the fence, do it - you won't regret it.
