Stayed here in hopes to experience the beautiful West Virginia snow in the Appalachian cabin with my husband and 1.5 year old. The location is a gorgeous winter wonderland. But the cabin was quite a disappointment.
The biggest thing I would like to state first is that I would not go to these cabins in winter if you do not have a 4 wheel drive that can handle a big icy hill. They seem to be unable to have equipment ready to maintain their roads and you will end up stuck. My husband had to shovel patches of ice and snow for 3 hours to get our telluride back up to the top and we had to hike back and forth to our cabin for the rest of the trip. We wished we knew ahead of time that they couldn’t plow the road. This storm has been talked about in the weather for At least a week and past places we have visited have always responsibly maintained their roads. They did at some point call a plow company but at that point it was too late the thick ice had formed and the plow company refused to plow for fear of making it worse.
The cabin was full of mice. The second night while we were watching a movie you could hear them skittering around and when I picked up my bags off the counters they jumped out. we had to lock up all of our food in coolers. They had mousetraps in a lot of cabinets and closets which we had to hide from our toddler. Every morning all the tables, sinks and counters were covered in mouse poop and the bedrooms had mouse poop in the corners. I had to rewash my daughter’s sippy cups and dishes because I was disgusted.
The stuff in the cabin is god awful. The couch we sat on was sinking in, the dining table leg broke off randomly, the bed was pure cheap lumpy springs (we barely slept because of this), all the nonstick pans were peeling (stainless would be much more efficient for cabins). The grill was so hard to use and blew up on us trying to get it to work. The igniter was broken and we had to use a lighter.
Good things: they provided shovels and salt, the hot tub was pretty cool esp with the snow, gas stove worked fine, our cabin had simple seasonings and utensils. Heat worked great in the cabin and we were never cold indoors despite the 10 degree weather. we requested a high chair for my daughter and they were able to provide a decent one that worked great.
Sadly. I will not be recommending country road cabins to anyone wanting to visit the gorgeous new river gorge area. We will be coming back in the summer but definitely not to...

Upon arrival everything appeared to be in order and well taken care of. The unit is small, but has everything you might need outside of an oven. The location is great for access to the national park, Babcock State Park, and Hawks Nest State Park (all beautiful places to visit and hike). ||Some things to think about and a HUGE unacceptable for $200/night. ||The treehouse is accessible by a narrow swinging bridge. It’s very cool unless you have any mobility issues. Also note, the treehouse is NOT welcoming for any mobility issues. The bathroom and bedroom would be very difficult to navigate. The bed is not very comfortable and I recommend bringing your own pillows. I also recommend bring towels if you plan to use the hot tub. There are no beach towels available and there is not enough extra towels to spare. Be cautious when leaving in the dark. The lighting is poor along the swinging bridge and parking area. We had to use our cell phones. The unit can get loud. The hot tube and refrigerator are both noisy. Be cautious when driving back out. The signage to find the treehouse is pretty good, but terrible to exit. ||Now the HUGE he#! NO!!!! On the third night we returned, made a quick microwave meal and sat down to read and watch some TV. At 8:00 after two nights of questioning our hearing, a huge MOUSE came out from under the dishwasher and sat on the kitchen rug right in front of us. I am not joking!! I hate mice and freaked out. Not only had we been hearing them for 2 nights scurrying around, we used the silverware and dishes you know they have been walking on. By 8:30 we were packed up and headed out. Mind you we had a 8.5 hour drive. It ruined any plans we had for Friday, but I refuse to knowingly sleep with mice running around. There is no excuse. I have stayed in multiple cabins and never had this problem. They need to be treating the cabin, find where they are getting in and treat around the cabin. Absolutely unacceptable. ||My wife did reach out to them and not received any response or...
