**Discrimination Alert: Today I visited one of the adoption gatherings they had at a PetSmart. While many other families walked in and out of the adoption/foster area two of the ladies repeatedly let me know my family and I could not go in to see the puppies to view which we would like to put an application in for.
She made up countless reasons as far as the room was too crowded. Then a family walked out and I asked may I go in now that another family left. She immediately replied ânoâ without thought. Then went to ask someone and reported that they are being very cautious of the puppies and that we could just stand and look from the outside.
She also mentioned that only the foster families could go in. Then I asked âare all of the puppies accounted for?â She replied no. Meaning that there were still puppies that could be seen that did not have a foster parent. And, we couldnât even get close enough to view or get help from anyone and consider which puppy we wanted to apply for. They gave me a card & just kept saying go to the website to see which one we wanted even though the puppies were in front of us to view.
Why were we (a black family) the ones to be cautious about and just had to stand and look from the outside while the other white famines were welcomed with a smile and friendly words. She then went on to say they wanted to protect the dogs from âdiseasesâ while there were other kids, families touching and playing with the dogs.
If that were the case everyone needed to be kept out not just us.
In addition, no one spoke to us when we walked up, they looked and continued to act as if we were not there. This was a very terrible experience. I would warn any other minority families to be aware of this type of behavior. There was more to the situation but this is all I care to write for...
Read moreYesterday I walked into Petsmart in PTC looking for a kitten and the employee there said the Fayette Humane Society was having an adoption event Saturday (today). Me and my lady were so excited to possibly have the opportunity to rescue a kitten but when we got to Petsmart a little after the event started things went down hill. We told the lady in charge we were interested if we found the right cat but just wanted to look and she would NOT leave us alone. I told her we had plenty of experience with cats (literally raising feral cats off the streets/very ill/skittish cats you name it) but would not stop talking about the obvious care that goes into rescuing any animal. Finally, when she stopped talking to us like we were idiots we found a cat we really liked that was found just a few days ago on Thursday. They did say most kittens have to be adopted in pairs thatâs why there were multiple in each crate but this cat was older and new and in his own crate and they said since he just got there he could go alone but after the weekend he would be paired with another cat. We were told to fill out an application to be able to hold the cat and see if heâs a good fit. We filled out about 15-20 min of paperwork to be told we couldnât even see the cat now because we didnât want to adopt 2 cats. The lady in charge proceeded to be extremely rude and say the rules were different than what she said 20 min prior trying to explain this to us like we are actually mentally handicap with the worst customer service Iâve ever seen⌠almost like she didnât want the kittens to be adopted. Long story short my lady was very upset because of the experience. bc she feels a strong calling to help a kitty get a home we thought this could be a good opportunity to do so but were proven wrong. DO NOT...
Read moreI had an absolutely terrible experience with this place, if you work with someone, I'd suggest anyone but Sharon Marchsiello. My husband and I were openly looking for a cat or kitten to add to our pack. We went to their pet adoption event, located at the PetSmart in Peachtree City where we found out you could only adopt kittens in pairs. (we were completely open to any cat/kitten just not a pair.) We were first approached in regards to a pair of male kittens, Sharon then proceeded to hound us the entire time, my husband eventually had to distance himself from me because of the fact she wouldn't stop cornering us. I was basically told I couldn't adopt a female due to me already having a female⌠then was informed they didn't have any single male cats there and to look online. Due to the fact our female actually does better with adult females than males, we proceeded to look at the adult cats, where Sharon proceeded to follow me around announcing how every cat I had an interest in was a female. (I knew what I was looking at and for) Sharon then proceeded to seek out and corner my husband and proceeded to say to him âYou just don't want to be here do you?â My husband was literally petting a cat when she approached him and said this. Now, even after that, I proceeded to look at cats, but it was when one of the WONDERFUL fosters asked Sharon on my behalf if there were any SINGLES available for adoption and Sharon looked at the foster and then said âThey have not filled out an application, they are just looking.â (We were LOOKING to adopt!!!) Long story short⌠No, we did not adopt a cat from them, but we did in fact adopt a perfect, adult female cat from elsewhere. The fosters were all amazing, SharonâŚ...
