Recently played this course at the end of August 2025. This was our first time playing this 9-hole course in Fenwick which is a borough of Old Saybrook, CT.
Before I continue, please note that this is a public golf course but also has members who have early access to tee times. For public tee times, you must log in online 24-hours prior. Tee times are available at 6 AM the previous day for the public.
Overall, had a great experience and would highly recommend. The starter was very friendly and easy going. The starter shack is also where you pay since the course does not have a separate pro shop. The course has push carts available for rental as well as actual golf carts. The price was reasonable for a 9-hole round with carts on the weekend compared to other golf courses in the area.
After meeting with the starter, we were greeted by the ranger who was very helpful. The ranger informed us that the course is built upon an outlet of Old Saybrook so it's difficult to have full irrigation. We also played in late August when a majority of the grass in CT is burned or dead. The fairways had some burnt grass but the tee boxes and greens were in great shape. The ranger even guided us to the first tee box and even gave us a "breakfast" ball. Upon completion of the first tee, he drove and guided us to the 2nd tee box which is tucked away in a neighborhood. Halfway through our round, we were greeted by another ranger, Peter, who was one of the nicest golf rangers I've met. He gave us positive encouragement regarding our pace of play and informed us that there was a tournament that was about to begin after us. He made us feel very welcomed without feeling rushed.
Overall, had a fantastic time playing at this hidden golf course in Old Saybrook. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a golf course with beautiful views and a...
Read moreOur visit to Fenwick Golf Course left us feeling disappointed. We arrived as a group of four, with two individuals eager to play with clubs and two who wished to watch and support. However, we were met with an unexpected and rigid policy that prohibited non-playing companions from joining us.
While we understand the importance of safety and maintaining a smooth flow of play, we were disappointed by the lack of flexibility at Fenwick Golf Course. It seems that the presence of non-playing companions is not valued or welcomed, which goes against the inclusive atmosphere we have come to expect from other golf courses.
Golf is a sport that can be enjoyed by both players and spectators, and the presence of non-playing companions often adds to the overall experience. We had hoped to share the joy of the game with our friends who preferred to watch, but unfortunately, Fenwick Golf Course does not embrace this philosophy.
In conclusion, the rigid "no walkers" policy at Fenwick Golf Course left us feeling disappointed. We believe that an inclusive approach that welcomes non-playing companions would enhance the overall experience for golf enthusiasts. We hope that in the future, Fenwick Golf Course will reconsider this decision and foster an environment that values the presence and support of all individuals, whether they choose to...
Read moreBe careful going here if you have children and want to play the 9 hole course. The sign states that under 14 year olds are allowed after four, however we got rejected from playing and was told that the rule was no children under 14. We went back to read the rules again, and the starter (and another person) came to us while we were rereading and continued to tell us we were wrong, even though the children that were with us had played there before. Not sure what's going on, but clearly ask if you will be allowed on the course. My rating reflects that I believe they aren't following their own rules. We ultimately drove another 12 miles to another course. Just an FYI, this is the rule from their own website, "Children 14 and under are not permitted on the 9‐hole course before 4:00 PM on weekends or holidays June 25th thru Labor Day, and must be accompanied by an adult at all other times." This was after 4,...
