When this place first opened I was not a fan. Even so, I've been here a few times and discovered some things I loved (some garden decor-never any plants as it's a small selection of nothing special).
After today though, I'm never going back. If there was a negative star rating, Wasson's deserves it.
On my way in from the parking area today I saw three giant pots-normally $200 each, marked down to 60%. I browsed the whole store, and inquired on the price of a fit pit. The woman in the nursery yard was helpful in getting the price, as it was not tagged. I decided against the fire pit, but wanted to get the pots. I explained that I'd like to buy the pots, but as they would not fit in my car, I'd have someone pick them up. The woman in the nursery yard was helpful and took the upc inside to ring me up.
The woman from the yard explained to the older woman at the register that I was buying the containers and wanted to pick them up later. She asked, can you pick them up today? I said no, that it would be in the next few days. "We can't hold sale items" the older woman at the register said. "Even if I pay for them?" I asked. "No," she said, “we don't have the room to hold things, and we have our pumpkin event in a few days".
{eye roll}
If you've ever been to this place it occupies like what is probably 8+ sparsely-merchandised acres for being supposedly some sort of "outdoor living" center. There's plenty of space EVERYWHERE to tuck three pots for a few days. I said "never mind" and left.
Between my own purchases and the purchases I make for work (which is what these pots were for) probably spend $10,000 a year on garden supplies, like pottery, perennials, annuals, stone, accessories and more.
Prior to Allisonville Nursery being being taken over by Sullivan's they'd always tuck my purchases behind their barn until my team could pick them up. I now spend almost all my garden budget at Rosie's Gardens. They are great people who appreciate me as a customer and value my business. Go there!
Also, at Rosie's I just bought a 7 gallon Firelight tree-form hydrangea-I got it on sale, 20% off $169. The same plant at Wasson's was $215.
Do yourself a favor and stay away. There's other local nurseries who will value...
Read moreExtremely disappointed in the way we were treated this morning. My family arrived at Wassons right around 9 am to pick up a school fundraiser order. I arrived a few minutes later as I had to pick my son up from practice. I arrived and went inside to let them know of our order pick up and was met with rudeness, irritation and shortness from an older lady and then from a shorter and slightly older male. The teen that worked the front desk was the only pleasant and polite one. They told me that my order was not ready and that we had to come back later. I stated that I had family that came from across town to assist with the order and eyes began to roll and heavy sighs of frustration were given and with much attitude I was told that we would had to wait because it would take some time to get the order ready. I explained that the last year we arrived to pick up an even larger order and they were ready and all we had to do was load up and leave. Then the shorter guy in a very condescending tone says, “we’ll someone must have called ahead”. Ummm…no. I was in charge of that as well and never called ahead. There’s never been instruction given to do so and therefore I did not. We arrived and our order was ready. So they then decided, visibly bothered and irritated that I had the nerve to show up to pick up my order decided to go and sort my order. I don’t know if there’s been a change in management or what but they were absolutely HORRIBLE today. We sold over 80 mums the last time and over 60 this time. Last time ran extremely smoothly and the staff were nice amd helpful. Exact opposite of today. I’ve also order flowers for my home from them but clearly my business and support is not needed or wanted by them so they definitely will not get it again. EVER! I don’t usually post reviews but the way we were treated was absolutely unacceptable. My family stated they were rude to them before I arrived. Done with...
Read moreWe bought a new, large raised bed for growing vegetables and needed soil to fill it. We purchased 3 yards of landscaper's blend from Wasson for delivery. The price of delivery was very reasonable. Delivery was quick and hassle-free, and both the woman I spoke with on the phone who scheduled the delivery and the man who delivered the soil were super nice. They are the reason I felt it was more fair to give three stars than just one.
The landscaper's blend is supposed to be a blend of compost and pulverized topsoil that is "rock free" and screened. What I found instead was soil that had quite a few rocks and even worse - a large piece of a broken glass bottle that could have seriously hurt someone! The soil was also riddled with little pieces of trash, including plastic and styrofoam, that I had to pick out of it.
One of the reasons I went with a raised bed and bulk soil was because I didn't want to deal with the heavy clay soil in our yard. Unfortunately, this soil blend was also full of sooooo many clumps of clay. I put some of this blend, unamended, in a 12 inch by 11 inch round planter with 13 drainage holes, and water just pooled on the top and stayed there for over an hour.
So, on top of the hours it took to haul the soil from the driveway to the raised bed, I then also had to spend hours breaking up clumps of clay and amending the soil so it will drain.
Really frustrating experience, especially for the...
