Recently (yesterday) I went into Buccee's on the way out of town to get something to eat. I had not been there in almost a year and the one sandwich I always got was the club melt. As most of you know, Buccee's is always insanely packed and hectic. Well I was able to grab a sandwich off the heater and go about my way. While doing this I noticed the sign with all the ingredients say "sundried tomato pesto", well I knew the sandwich always had something like that on it so I did not think anything of it. I check out and go back to my car and I start to feel weird about it. I am allergic to nuts and pesto is usually made with tree nuts or peanuts. So I read the ingredients and sure enough it says peanuts on the list, which amazes me because I have had this sandwich 1,000 times and never had a reaction. So I go back inside and ask the cashier if she knows if they changed the recipe and she says that changed it in September or so last year. So I explain the situation to her and she walks with me to the counter to see if they can remake one without the pesto. They refuse and say that they cannot take custom orders. It is not that hard to just close one up without putting 1 ingredient on it. I understand not making custom orders by adding things or whatever. But overall, just to not add 1 ingredient while they are being made is not that hard and can be easily accommodated. So I then go and talk to the head manager about this and she says that they cannot even give me a refund for a $9 sandwich because "it shows the list of ingredients on the picture in front of them". Well here's the thing about that, with the business being so hectic, there are not lines and people just jump in and grab and go. So I knew what I had eaten before and so I go in and grab it, it was very very difficult to see the sign. Also, there are people with nut allergies that do not know that pesto has nuts in it (I didn't know this until maybe a year ago). They did not have a sign anywhere advertising that the item "had nuts". So with all of that being said, it was very difficult to know it had nuts in it before purchasing, they refused to make one without the pesto, and they refused to give me a refund. The customer service was also not good, they were kind of rude about the whole thing, except for the first cashier who tried her hardest to help me (she was super sweet and understanding). So I ended up walking out of there and throwing the whole sandwich, still in the wrapper and untouched, into the trash can. I know there was a way for them to make this right but they refused! I was not at all impressed or satisfied with their customer service and I left feeling very angry at the whole interaction, as well as being out $10 because of their lack of signage! They need to have a sign next to it that says "new recipe, now contains tree nuts and peanuts" for those that have eaten it before and think they still can. I do enjoy their food and they have other options, overall their customer service is usually good unless you have an issue like this. If you do not have an issue like this then its a 4.5 stars but for this reaction specifically I am giving it a 2 star. Would be 1 star if I did not have the help of the sweet cashier who tried her...
Read moreThis is the most amazing rest stop, convenience store, gas station, bathroom stop or whatever you need, that I have ever seen. I was on a trip with a friends traveling north on Rte 95. I kept seeing signs for Buc-ee's and I was not sure what it was. All I knew was they must be spending a lot of money on advertisements. Every few miles there was another billboard for Buc-ee's. My curiosity got the best of me and I had to see what it was all about. We had traveled a couple of hours and it was time for a pit stop, so Buc-ee's here I come. I pulled off the highway and followed the signs a short distance to Buc-ee's and there it was. There were gas pumps as far as I could see. There was actually two different long rows of double sided gas pumps. I don't know exactly how many gas pumps there were but the pump I visited was #249. As I walked up to the pump, I thought the gas price would be expensive because of all of the advertisements that I had seen on the highway. Surprisingly it was probably the cheapest gas that I had seen on my trip. I cheerfully filled up my tank and then headed inside to join my other companions. What a shocker, this place was HUGE. I knew there were a lot of cars outside but inside there were hundreds of people inside. As I walked through the entrance, there are cashiers on both sides. I was greeted by at least two of them with a "Welcome to Buc-ee's". I have never been welcomed at a rest stop before. I made my way to the men's room, which was across the floor. The men's room was immaculate. It was clean and did not have a foul odor. I felt like I was actually in someone's home. When I exited the men's room, I started to look around. This place had everything you could imagine. Food, drinks, camping supplies, road trip necessities, there was everything that I could imagine. In the center they were making brisket and pulled pork sandwiches among other things. I watched them make the sandwiches and was totally impressed. The food was flying off the shelf. I had to grab one of the sandwiches for myself. As I approached the exit, there was an army of cashiers all with a smile and eager to take care of you. I was astonished that there were hundreds of people. All moving quickly, and making purchases and no line to wait to get out. When I returned to my car, I was totally impressed. The brisket sandwich was amazing. The meat was fresh and tender. The flavor was excellent. This is totally the most amazing experience that I have ever had on the road. I will definitely be back and I will definitely be having another sandwich. If you are in the area or you happen to see Buc-ee's on the road, you have to make a pit stop. You will...
