12 Hours of Sebring race 2024 - Will not ever be back unless things are fixed. Very dissatisfied group of 3 people. The event is over-commercialized and completely missing the point. There is nearly zero seating to watch the race! Signage was plenty but not usable at all (non-descript).
This place needs some serious logic applied to the track with single-day spectators and seating being at the forefront of the priority and race watching experience. There should be no blocked out sections along any part of the track, and you should be able to walk the entire track and sit down to watch it somewhere.
How does it make any sense that you push all the RV/Camping/Golf Cart people to all the inside areas around the track and put nearly ZERO seating around the track for viewing the actual race? I really wanted to see so much of the race as it's in my top 3 favorite tracks of all time. Instead I was only able to see a small fraction of the track, and the backsides of RVs and tents. The more we tried to get around and view the race, the angrier we all got before we gave up, went back to the parking lot ate food, and went home by 3pm.
It is next to impossible to see the cars move around the track! You get about 2-5 seconds of visibility of racecars in only a few areas. It was utterly ridiculous. There needs to be WAY more open seating/stands/lawns around the very perimeters and entire length of track.
Another huge mistake I noticed at this track? Concessions. You have crammed so many campers and reserved parking in the center of the track all the way up to the safety barrier walls, you can't even have concessions scattered around in convenient areas! If you put stands everywhere where the campers are, you could have concessions in between each area and sell far more product.
We brought our own food/drink which I think is nice as far as the rules go, but since we parked so far outside of the track, we were telling each other "You know if they just had concessions here, I would gladly just pay for it right here, if there was a place to buy it and to quickly take it over to a place to sit". Instead you have to go run the gauntlet walking or get on the tram to go to a disorganized concessions area, or leave the track which takes 30 minutes realistically to walk to the tram pickup, get on the tram,, get dropped off at tram central, then walk 10 minutes to your car.
Additionally - You must bring sunscreen, light-weight foldable seating, and a backpack-cooler, and your own shade as there is none anywhere on the track except for the more expensive "grand-stand" seating, which only overlooks the starting grid.
This track/race is for two types of visitors; Race teams, or RVs full of partiers getting drunk and smoking weed, while driving golf carts everywhere, that want a race going on around them. If you aren't either of those types, don't bother going. Just watch the race on streaming service. It was VERY difficult to actually see racing without feeling like you're in the way of someone or in an area you aren't supposed to be. It was an awful experience and waste of time to go. I went home (2 hour drive) and finished watching the race on YT, which is bullshit.
We spent wasted hours walking, or riding the tram to basically see the tops of racecars drive by for a few seconds. There was barely anywhere to see the cars from except turn 7, and the end of the last straight. The RV/Campers that are not race teams, should be on the very outside perimeter of the track where free parking is - Not all in the inside of the track where you should actually have stands all around the track for people to sit and watch the race from.
Aside from the above - The staff are all very nice, and the track was fairly clean. The portable restrooms were plenty and not too terrible. Parking wasn't an issue even out in the free area. The tram was an easy...
Read moreThis was my first visit to Sebring International Raceway. I am a big race fan and this was on my bucket list. I really enjoyed the World War II history aspect of this facility. It was built in 1941 as a training facility for B-17 bomber pilots. Many of the concrete runways still exist. And they are used as racing surface in many areas of the race track. You will also be able to walk on a lot of the old concrete. You can walk around most of the race track. There are many different areas where you can watch the action at no charge which includes both spectator mounds and grandstand. You can camp for no charge in the infield except up against the fence by the race track. Those spots have to be reserved in advance. They do have a food midway as well as driver and team midways where you can purchase food and product. They also had live bands. You can bring in your own food and drink. You can walk through the paddock area where they house and work on the cars. Very cool. You can also get pretty close to the area where they pit the cars during the race. On Thursday night after practice the cars actually have to drive through the infield in order to get to the paddock. You are able to get right next to them as they go by. Just great! Many of the cars have very colorful lights attached to them, kind of like neon. Makes for exciting viewing during the night. They also have numbers on the cars that light up that tell you what position they are currently running in. Those numbers do show up pretty well at night. Now for the reasons that I scored this facility as a four star instead of a five star. You will have to pay attention to the cars closely in order to be able to understand who is running in what place. That is because there are only two video boards in the whole track. They have an app that you can use at the track but it is not reliable at all. You might want to consider subscribing to whatever streaming service the races are being broadcast on. Another thing that is lacking is showers. There are only two places in the whole track that have showers and there are not very many of them. I was also disappointed that they closed the showers right after the race was over. After spending all day walking, sweating and getting dirty I would have thought they would allow us some time to get cleaned up. Overall though I am very glad that I went and I would recommend...
