I tried this program for 2 months. The first month was ok, I had a few bad meals but overall a decent experience for the first few weeks. I enjoyed how It is convenient since I work and travel a lot. However, after the first 3 weeks there were so many issues with quality, portions and freshness which started to become a hassle having to consistently email customer service. If you are paying $20-30 per meal (sometimes for a mini muffin or a quarter of a waffle), you want it made right and be able to count on it being edible. That seems fair.
Pro's -They have innovative dishes -Marketing, graphics and concept is really good. -The meals fill you -Super convenient -Cool, club-like concept. -Pretty salads, and best tasting -Cool write-ups on each meal
Cons -A lot of meals come inedible. -Inconsistent portions -Over promise services without delivering, "Bait & Switch" -Customer service representative is also a "health coach" -No nutrition information is provided -Unwilling to make errors ethically correct -Never pick up freezer bags from front porch
After the first month month being ok, I made a month long commitment to a summer challenge they offered. The challenge was made to seem like this grand thing with all of these perks and this new super cool menu. Most of the menu was things I had the month prior only worse quality, which was a total let down.
Here's what they promised: -Weekly gift cards, 4 total -2 Free passes to Physique 57 in Beverly Hills -Online workout subscription to Physique 57 -Health coaching with consistent "check-ins", 3 total. -Breakfast-lunch and dinner, for a month
Seems like the right way to start summer, right?
Here is what I actually received. -Two $50 gift cards the entire month, I was promised 4 -Online workout subscription to Physique 57, which I loved -One initial health consultation, a week and half into the program which was significantly shorter than agreed. My health consultant was the customer service representative. Did not receive 2 Follow-ups. -Undependable meals that were good but consistently inedible which created more of a problem on a busy schedule, especially when I thought I had lunch or dinner taken care of. At least one meal every few days.
After a month of a lot of frustrations and emails (because you've got to document and prove it). I wanted to just be done. I asked to be refunded for the meals that I had the time and patience to document and email, but at the time they would only issue me credit for another week of subscription. Super frustrated, I sent an email to the feedback email they provided. I promptly received a call, the woman was kind and helpful. She offered to send me another week for free, and another (single) health coaching call and some free passes to a completely different class. I told it wasn't something I was interested in since I was going out of town the following Monday, so I would prefer a partial refund. She sent the subscription anyways. On the day of my vacation I woke up to a Sakara Bag. It had a short apology letter and a lip gloss to make up for the missing gift cards, and a few free passes to a random fitness class. A week later they refunded my card $90, very random, for meals that were bad (which does not come close to the meals that were bad). It was all nice gestures, but again I was not listened to and still not what I was promised or equivalent to that. They just kind said here and you're done.
I really wanted to love this subscription, it is convenient, fun and tasty. I would have been a long time client as It would have made my life so much easier. I am sad it ended like this, but I felt I was a victim of "Bait and Switch" and I wasn't really listened to. What good is sending a free-week when I said I would be out of town? I was promised a whole lot and delivered a lot less. I ended...
Read moreI was first drawn to Sakara's beautiful online presentation, then blown away by their story. This is not a pretty gimmick. Two remarkable women designed a system of eating to heal themselves through food. This appealed to me as I had been trying to do the same thing. I had been rather successful, but have been increasingly ill of late. I have a number of rare genetic disorders; I am a medical unicorn.
The most normal of my medical challenges problems is genetically high cholesterol. I have been a vegetarian my whole life and a vegan for the last ten years. Nonetheless, my cholesterol was climbing dangerously, frighteningly high. I am 6'1" and very thin. I swim, walk, do Pilates and work out at the gym on a regular basis. I am in excellent shape for anyone and certainly for someone with such serious medical problems. The exercise kept my muscles firm but wasn't shifting my HDL/LDL numbers one bit
When released from a month in the hospital following complications from one of my unicorn oddities, I got Sakara's 2020 Reset. What I found was this: Sakara is a remarkable way of living and healing through food. It is a carefully considered food philosophy, with meal contents, nutritional and flavor profiles backed by science and seasoned with the healing wisdom of ancient traditions. Sakara's owners started the company to solve their own health problems. What resulted from their exploration was not a diet, (though you may lose weight). Rather, it is a way of eating that carefully considers what our bodies need and eliminates substances dangerous to the maintenance of long-term health and well-being. And if you don't want to sweat the details, just eat the food. It is great!
Sakara provide fresh, beautifully presented, gluten-free, vegan meals that use no sugar (sometimes maple syrup). The food is almost shockingly delicious. You don't need to add or adjust seasoning. You may eat the meals cold and eat them in their compostable containers, or heat them and plate them as you wish. The foods are nutritionally dense so you stay very full. For example, I laughed when I saw a tiny breakfast muffin with berry "butter." I don't each much, typically and thought that, even for me, the muffin was small. Wrong. The Sakara magic of density and use of healthy oils made this tiny muffin more than sufficient to keep me full until lunch.
The system provides 4-6 cups of greens daily. It is more than most people are used to. It was more than I was used to and I tended to eat a large salad for dinner daily. The greens and a variety of tasty dressings (more than oli and vinegar combinations) cleanse your system. A detox tea and probiotic vitamins are also provided. Every day, your body is treated to functional and delicious meals, beautifully presented and lovingly prepared, that shepherd you toward healing from the inside out.
As it happens, the greens may have been the element of this system most responsible for an unexpected benefit. My dangerously high cholesterol levels dropped to within aim of normal after one month. My doctors were shocked. As was I.
I am a great gluten-free vegan cook and thought I had been doing everything right. Apparently, not enough. Because Sakara worked in ways I had not anticipated. I was just trying some pretty food.. I wasn't expecting anything in particular. But, in addition to three delicious, gorgeous and colorful, tasty and interesting meals each day, I got improved health, glowing skin, reduced pain.
Sakara has been life-saving and life-changing to me. My belly is full and my body is better. And I...
Read moreI was graciously selected to receive two weeks of the 5-day meal plan after applying to the scholarship program, however, they did not influence this review in any way. I have been wanting to try Sakara for years and the program definitely met many of my expectations and exceeded others. This program is rooted in abundance, not deprivation - I never once felt hungry or deprived and, on the contrary, felt satiated and satisfied throughout the entire program. Their products and meals are not only aesthetically pleasing and beautiful, but they are truly crafted with love and passion. I love their company as a whole and what the founders and the company itself stands for. The meals arrived on time and as expected, all of the packaging is recyclable and eco-friendly, and the meals were beautiful, delicious, and very filling. When you eat Sakara, you can be assured you are getting all of your essential nutrients, vitamins, and minerals along with a healthy dose of superfoods (I love that Sakara counts nutrients, not calories). This program could not be more seamless and convenient for those wishing to lead healthy lives with busy schedules and little time to prepare their own meals. I am currently a full-time caregiver for a loved one as well as a student and preparing my own healthy, nutritious meals every day has become increasingly difficult - I looked forward to opening the fridge every day and having a Sakara meal readily available and ready to eat whenever I needed it. Every single breakfast item blew me away and there were only a couple meals (out of 30) that I didn't absolutely love (however, I would eat every single meal again). This is incredible for an incredibly healthy, fully-prepared meal delivery service. I have struggled with chronic health problems and digestive disorders my whole life and eating a healthy diet is a major priority to me - I noticed total-body improvements upon doing this program and felt healthier, lighter, and noticed an increase in my mood and energy levels. Overall, the food was nutritious, delicious, and extremely satiating. The meals are creative and inventive and almost all were things I wouldn't normally make for myself at home. The ingredients are the closest you can get to perfect from a meal delivery service. The employee that assisted me was wonderful and every single thing about the program was thoughtful and intentional. They pay close attention to detail and leave very little room for improvement. While it is quite pricey, if you can swing it and are looking for an easy, convenient way to improve your health in a healthy, sustainable way, Sakara is for you. 10/10 I would order this program again and...
