Smith Meats — Local services in Forest Township

So I call to inquire about processing my lamb. The woman took my information down and instructed me on how to drop my animal off on a Sunday because it takes a week to process. I drove her all the way there and followed instructions I left her in the middle pen I closed it and locked it I closed the barn door and replaced the chain holding it shut then closed the big barn door! I get a call the following day saying the lamb escaped and was not able to be caught. He told me there was nothing he could do for me no compensation or anything I’m just out of an expensive lamb I’ve raised from baby ! He also told me his girlfriend likes to go see or play with the animals before slaughter! I assume she accidentally let the lamb out…. He assured me they would catch it “eventually” I called again the following day and the man sounded irritated and accused me of not coming to help look, like it was my responsibility!!! I loaded up the sheep’s buddy goat and went over there to look I figured if she heard her friend she would come. We started the search when the man gets a phone call from his “girlfriend” he answered on speaker phone and she screamed “WHY ARE YOU HELPING HER!” Then He quickly took it off speaker. I was in shock and immediately felt unsafe and uneasy. This place has BAD VIBES! How could a business be so unprofessional and rude with no work ethic at all. How could you lose my lamb and not offer me anything except an oh well!?! I have not heard from them and assume this is the end of it. I’ve spoken to a few of the neighbors they said they wouldn’t use this place again due to the fact they don’t even do a good job processing. I’m passing this information along and hope they learn how to treat people/customers! I’m thinking of going to the authorities. My phone records conversations. I’m just really upset at this...

So, not too happy.... Called about taking in 2 turkeys the girl on the phone told me the process, drop off your birds in your cage, pick up your birds and cage when they are done. Simple enough. dropped them off sunday night and was told they would be done the following monday ( i wanted them smoked) i called the next tuesday and they wouldn't be done until friday, all good with me, i was out of town, friday would be great. so i went to get my birds and cage, birds were done and looked good, paid and went to get my cage.... it was gone... so i asked where it was... the response "someone must have taken it"... yeah i got that part.... so i asked if they could track it down or get it back??? basically i was told "no" pretty much i am out of luck.... not how you run a business.... no accountability whatsoever....WTF??? So now i am out of a cage and will not be going back.... they should have told me they would try to track it down and if they couldn't find it they would replace it, it was left in their care until my items were done, their responsibility.... Needless to say i won't be going back, nor recommending...

Similar situation as Adam, they hosed up my hog processing order two years ago and blamed it on the staff person being new, they did not include my sausage in the order when i reviwed it when i got there. They went to the freezer and brougt out ten lbs of sausage. When i asked if that came from my pigs she said not mine but somebody’s! Clearly they keep a little of the hogs brought in for themselves! This year i stood there with the guy to make sure there was no confusion on how I wanted it cut and processed. When i picked it up again this year they screwed it up again! Wrong thicknesses, smoked improperly and when i compkained to the owner he replied “my staff isnt perfect” pay full price if i want to get my meat back.NEVER again will i go there. If considering doing a catered pig roast i would think again.the included photo shows a hog destined for a roaster. Was there when i went in and still there when i left.
