Be very careful having your vehicle serviced here, I had multiple issues which resulted in an overall negative experience. I will not be bringing my RV back to this location.
I've been a light duty mechanic for 10 years. I'm comfortable with working on cars, light trucks and SUVs, but I don't have the tools or experience to service everything on medium and heavy duty vehicles, such as a class A diesel pusher RV.
I bought the RV from the original owner, who 18 months prior to my visit to truck centers also had it at this same shop for service, including a PM, which involved replacing the fuel filters, air filter, engine oil and filter. They also replaced the rear wheel seals. Since then, the vehicle had been driven about 1,000 miles.
The RV needed several things. Belts and tensioner, a wheel seal and a vibration issue diagnosed which I believed was related to ride height. They gave me an estimate of $1800 for the jobs which I gave them approval on. I asked if the axle seal would be covered under warranty as they were the ones who replaced it 18 months ago, but was told the best they could do is give me $100 off the repair.
About three weeks later, I was told the vehicle would not accelerate to highway speeds and needed an $800 PM service, even though it was just done 1,000 miles ago by the same shop. However, when I later drove the vehicle to see what they were talking about, it had no trouble accelerating to highway speeds, which I took video evidence of. I was later told "the technician was not pressing the accelerator pedal down all the way" which is why it wouldn't accelerate. Seriously?
I then received another call from the advisor stating they concluded the vibration was an internal rear differential issue. The differential would have to be removed, disassembled and possibly overhauled, which would cost thousands. I asked the advisor if the technician checked the rear air suspension ride height as I requested. He assured me the ride height was ok, the driveshaft angle was correct and "all suspension components were checked." After being told the vehicle wouldn't accelerate to highway speeds, but me personally finding nothing wrong with it, I'm having a hard time trusting what this technician says. The advisor assured that their technicians "are top of the line" and know what they're doing. Still skeptical, I declined the rear differential overhaul, asked them to finish the other jobs.
When I picked the RV up, my $1800 estimate had surprisingly turned out to be over $2300. I decided to not argue the charges yet and pay the bill as I simply wanted to get my RV out of there as I had no faith in the technician servicing the vehicle. After getting the vehicle home, I decided to check the rear ride height and driveshaft angle myself, which I found to obviously be the cause of the vibration. A little rubber bushing on the ride height rod had failed, causing excessively low rear ride height, resulting in excessive driveshaft angle. Part cost: $100. Additionally, after five minutes of internet research, I found the low power concern was caused by a sticking fuel shut off solenoid. Part cost: $30.
After a conversation with the Service Manager, he agreed to refund the $382 I paid to have the vibration issue diagnosed.
During a pre trip checkover this morning, I found the A/C compressor drive belt was very loose. The A/C compressor bolts were not tightened, causing the belt to come loose over time. I also found the right rear wheel cover was loose. One of the wheel cover nuts was missing and the the other was loose, about to fall off. The wheel cover nuts were not tightened after the wheel seal was replaced and lug nuts were torqued.
Unfortunately, my experience with this shop left me feeling like either the technician knew what he was doing and was trying to take advantage of me, or the technician had no clue what he was doing and shouldn't be working on these vehicles in the first place. I usually don't complain or write negative reviews, but this was too much. Be careful when having your vehicle...
Read moreTypical slow big wait times from a big fancy shop. Takes forever for them to do paperwork every after truck is done. Simple brake chamber, fuel filters, and oil change, took 5 hours. Big fancy shop should be able to get that done quicker. I have a camera in the truck and watched the whole thing. They just move slower than truck stop techs do. Even the ones around my truck moved slow and the managers so used to slow techs he thought it was quick for what was done. My mistake for being lazy and not doing it myself because it was raining. Job takes me an hour to 90min in a parking lot with harbor freight tools, ridiculous. These guys rates go up because their turn around times suck. Stop buying big fancy buildings just to take forever and charge more. I'm local and after talking to others this isn't just me. I guess if they just only wanna work for big companies so they can charge more they need to tell owner operators they are going to milk the work and not tell us you'll get the job done quick.
The biggest issue is they actually think that's a quick amount of time. 5 hours for a brake chamber and half a service, didn't even change the Davco or grease the truck at all or anything to make it make sense. They're super numb to the fact they're slow. Then the truck sat outside for an hour while I waited on paperwork. They didn't have a line of drives waiting to leave and check out either, just me. The other guys wasn't done yet. Just an overall horrible experience and will call a service truck from love's that'll get it done quicker and better the next time I'm feeling lazy FOR THE SAME DAMN PRICE AND AT MY LOCATION RATHER THAN DRIVING TO THEIR SHOP. So sick of big shops taking advantage of the market like this. One reason theres so many little shops popping up doing a better...
Read moreRV Owners Beware when taking your RV to Freightliner Truck Center (FTC). I was charged $571 “diagnostic labor and supplies” to replace a starter switch that was 100% covered (parts and labor) by my warranty! The service manager told me the reason for the outrageous $571 charge was because on the service writeup I told them the switch was Broken and the manager said I should have told them I wanted it Replaced. After paying I went to start the RV and the starter would not engage (reason I brought to FTC). I went back inside and got a service writer and after several minutes of manipulating the key, they got the engine started. We start/stopped the engine a couple of times and I drove my RV home. A few days later I tried to start the RV and after about 10-15 minutes of playing with the key, I managed to get it started and drove back to FTC. The same service writer who had helped me get the RV started before came out, played with the key for several minutes and told me that I needed a new key set because the old set was not compatible with the new switch. This FTC does not have any parts and I did not have a car. So, I called someone who had to drive 60 miles, purchase the part, and deliver the new key set. The service writer showed me how to remove the old key set and after much effort (not easy to remove since it had been forced into the new switch) we were able to install the new and compatible key set into the switch. Now after $571 and two trips to FTC when you turn the key the engine starts 3 out of 4 times. If you take your RV to a Freightliner Truck Center make sure you write, in very fine detail, Exactly what you want them to do! Also make sure you have your checkbook; they charge 2.9%...
