An unforgettable White Cliffs experience – absolutely first class

We just returned from a 4-day guided trip through the White Cliffs section of the Missouri River with Missouri River Outfitters, and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we booked until we returned to Great Falls after the trip, MRO delivered a flawless, well-organized, and truly unforgettable experience.

Our guides were exceptional—deeply knowledgeable about the area’s history, geology, and wildlife, and just incredible human beings to spend four days with. Their passion for this landscape, especially the Lewis and Clark story, brought the journey to life in a powerful way. You could tell they love this river and sharing it with others.

The logistics were seamless. MRO handled everything—from the pre-trip briefing at the historic Grand Union Hotel in Fort Benton to comfortable riverside campsites with fantastic meals, cold drinks, and thoughtful details. Gear was top notch (tents, cots, dry bags, chairs), and we were always well-fed and well-supported. They even accommodated our CPAP needs and made sure we had plenty of cold beer on hand—crucial for our crew of “professional-level” campers!

We’ve done a lot of group trips, and this ranks at the top. The White Cliffs section is breathtaking, and MRO helped us experience it in a way that was relaxing, meaningful, and fun. Already planning to return with my kids next summer.

Can’t recommend MRO highly enough. Book the trip—you...

For the second time in 3 years our Boy Scout Troop has made the trip from Wood bottom to Judith Landing. We rented all the boats and utilized shuttles back to our starting point. We were 10 canoes and 2 Kayaks the first trip and 22 canoes the second trip. With a group of this size one would think something may go off the plan just once right?! Not the case! Michael and Meredith run a top notch program. Nothing is ever a problem. They are always so kind and professional. You can trust them to be organized and ready when you show up. Our large group presented a few challenges with regard to getting all the boats dropped off and providing us with the large variety of sizes of PFD's we required but they never hesitated. Everything was in place and ready to go at the time needed. Very accommodating, professional, kind, personable people to work with. In addition, they provide you with an "experience" not just gear. They know the river, the camp sites, the route times etc. The equipment is in good shape, the shuttles are in good mechanical condition and safe (I am in the profession so I took notice) your gear is secured before they drive away... You will not be disappointed with Missouri River Outfitters (Or Adventure Bound Canoe) they are here to provide you with a positive experience...

We did the 5 night 6 day White Cliffs & Badlands trip over July 4th. Excellent experience, 10/10 would recommend!!

Perfect way to see a wild part of this beautiful landscape and have someone else take care of all the hard parts!

Food was amazing quality, tons of variety and catered to guest's dietary restrictions. Best food I've had while camping easily. Ravioli with bolognese, lamb gryo's, egg noodles with mushroom & onion gravy, and goat cheese w/ mango compote top the list for me but each of our 3 daily meals (including dinner appetizers & desert each night!) were well above expectations.

Sarah was our lead guide and absolutely amazing! Felt like we met a real life Valkyrie ;-). Etta also guided us for all 6 days and was very helpful and fun to be around. First three days of our journey included Ryan & Brock as guides as well. Brock was super helpful on our hike, even acting as an additional 'foothold' for those who needed it. Ryan was a hoot and a half around camp, very fun personality.

Major props to Nicolle & her entire team. Communications from booking to 'put in' was excellent. They confirmed all of our details from dietary preferences/restrictions to sleeping accommodations and beverage...

Missouri River Outfitters provided an incredible experience thanks to Nicole and the rest of the staff. Our guides were professional and knowledgeable, making the trip easy/accessible for everyone. The guides handle every little detail while out on the river. From the meals (which were incredible) to setting up camp- the guides handled it all. This allowed us the time to relax, explore, and immerse ourselves in the richness of the experience. Don’t let a lack of canoeing experience stop you from going! My mother and I had never even sat in a canoe. Although we initially struggled to learn, our guides were incredibly encouraging. With their help, we soon figured it out. I was glad that we did the 4-day trip (it covers the same distance as the 3-day trip). If you have any concerns about potential physical limitations, my mother (mid 70s) felt this experience was feasible and accessible. We hope to have the opportunity to return and enjoy another trip with MRO!

If you’re interested in an active, “adventure” vacation, I can recommend canoeing the Missouri Breaks in northern Montana. It was not too much hard work and the reward was beautiful scenery and an overall great time. My wife and I did a guided tour through Missouri River Outfitters, which meant that someone did the planning and the cooking for us and set up and broke down our tents each day. Our Missouri River Outfitter guides did a fantastic job of keeping us safe, comfortable, well fed and well informed. Their equipment was clean and in excellent condition. We had good weather and good company, which is of course never guaranteed on a vacation. It was a good value. Bonus if you’re into US history — we camped in many of the spots that Lewis and Clark and the Corps or Discovery camped and we paddled past the spot where Chief Joseph gave his tragic ”fight no more forever” speech. The worst part of the trip? Going home.
