Wills Valley Recreation Center — Local services in Fort Payne

This is a great facility and used to be a very friendly gym. Now they’ve put up glass in front of the desk and an extra door you have to go through that sometimes they still don’t open for a while after you’ve scanned your pass. Feels like a gym in New York City now.

They also decided that if you still have your yoga mat with you after yoga class you can’t bring it upstairs to keep it where you can see it while you walk the track and are going to make you walk back down the stairs and out to your car with it. Well, I’m disabled and in bad enough shape that if you make me walk out to my car I’m not coming back. Really discourages people from exercising.

They call my yoga mat sleeve a “bag” and tell me no “bags” are allowed upstairs anymore for some unknown reason. Well there’s also a sign that says DO NOT DROP THE WEIGHTS but they never enforce that rule even though it makes my time in the gym very stressful when the guys do this.

The door to one of the racquetball courts broke back before summer and wasn’t fixed for several months, and for some reason they decided that the entire court was nonfunctional without a door.

Edit to add: more than one other employee has since told me the guy who yells at you about your yoga mat was wrong. I POLITELY let him know this and he proceeded to SHOUT AT ME ALL THE WAY DOWN ONE SIDE OF THE TRACK. He then confronted me when I came back around and shouted at me more, then told me to go downstairs and speak to a woman who thank god had an ounce of professionalism. Due to my neurological issues and this person’s behavior, I am now shaking violently, my heart is pounding and I am short of breath. My family will not renew our membership or continue to use this gym if this employee is permitted to speak to...

I haven’t came here in a long time but this time I came in to sign my brothers up for soccer. An older lady “helped” me by handing me the clipboard and slapping the pen into it. After I was done with the forms she took it and said nothing. I was at the window waiting to get told the next step or for my money to be received. None of them helped me!! They were just staring at me and not one word. They proceed into moving or reading stuff on their desk?? I then proceed to ask what’s my total? And the older lady just asks the other lady my total. She then tells me my total and I give my money and ask for a receipt. Aside from this the lady spilt her drink on the forms I had just signed! I am not upset with the rec center as I have always enjoyed my time here. This facility doesn't seem to have the safety of its paying members at heart. 3 times I've asked that they place a bath mat at the entrance/exit to the showers, because I've slipped twice and almost fell once. only to be scoffed at and on another occasion was basically embarrassed in front of the other employees behind the desk by Devon, I think is his name, the African American man. All I requested was they place a $7 mat on the floor to keep people from slipping on the wet floor.
