Don’t forget your sun protection🕶️🧴🧢 [AD] We had a great weekend in Yuma! We really enjoyed the beautiful Sonoran desert scenery from our hikes and drives, and learned so much more about Yuma’s critical role in history for Native Americans, the Spanish, and Americans. Did you know the first ever ocean to ocean railroad crossed the Colorado River in Yuma in 1877? 🥾Hiked Telegraph Pass ~ 5.7 miles out and back. VERY steep and is rated as difficult ☕️🌺We ate breakfast and had coffee at @cafecitoyuma 🗝️Visited the historic Yuma Territorial Prison 🚂Visited Colorado River State Historic Park 📱We checked-in with the @visit_arizona Parks Passport for a chance to win some incredible prizes 🍔Ate lunch at @prisonhillbrewco 🌮Ate dinner at @lutescasino 🚙4x4 vehicle is required to reach McPhearson Pass 🚮Please remember to Leave No Trace 📍 Videos captured on native lands of the Xawiƚƚ kwñchawaay (Cocopah) and Quechan (Kwatsáan) peoples • • • • • #visityuma #yumaaz #optoutside #arizona #visitarizona #arizonahiking #yuma

Love Telegraph pass, very challenging...if you're weak! Best time to go is about 90mins before sunset so you have some light on the way back down. 5 mile round trip loop from the parking lot area to the top or "1st cell tower area" the last mile is 1100' up and the grade is very steep the last 0.6 or so, good luck running the whole way up, also watch out for snakes! I've done it 58 times over the last 2 years and only seen a snake 2 times but last night I almost stepped on a small (2ft long) rattlesnake!!! So be careful! Bring flashlights or make sure you have phone juice for the hike back down. If you can make it to the top in under 30mins I'll be impressed. It should put you in the top 10 on strava. No point in timing your self on the way down. There is no glory in racing DOWN a mountain...plus you don't want to hurt yourself or bust your knees. This hike is the best part about living in Yuma.

Do you want to get in better shape? Do you love the outdoors? Are you the type of person that craves a challenge? Want to put your endurance to the test? Ate too many burritos and you're panicking about burning off those calories? Then head on over to Telegraph Pass, where one trip up and down will burn two day's worth of burritos and make you wonder why the hell you even decided to do this at all...that's of course only until you reach the top. Once there you'll realize it was all worth it. The view is great, but the sense of accomplishment is greater.

Telegraph pass is a one of a kind trail. It is a day hike that could take you anywhere between 2 and 4 hours to complete. Possibly faster if you ran some of it. Make sure you bring a little water and a small snack like trail mix. If it is hot don't bring dogs unless you bring them water too. Children friendly for the most part. They will complain like you've never...
