Shelter Cove General Store — Local services in Fortuna

This is by far the best small grocery/general store I've ever been to. In terms of selection, it's better than even some large grocery stores I've been and still go to.

I came here from Texas to vacation for a week and thought this store would render me dining on junk food or it's close cousins "convenience" foods.

Nope!

They pretty much have something to cover every broad category of craving. Went to cook some Asian food? Covered. Fancy some wagyu beef? Covered. A little Indian food? There's something to work with here. Healthy vegetarian/vegan cooking? You got it!

And then there are all of the other non-food items from ear plugs to shovels to dog toys/treats to snorkeling stuff to...well, I could keep listing all day.

Loved this place, the vibe, and their selections! This is the only store/gas in area until you get to Redway or Garberville. They even have a microwave you can use. What I didn’t like is the prices are through the roof and highest I’ve literally ever seen in a store. $7.59 for a chocolate bar, $10 for an Amy’s frozen meal, around $10 for a Lacroix pack of water, when even Rays (which is over priced) has them at $3.99. A small gathering of snacks, microwave meal, and a drink and you’re well over $40. Add gas and that’s another story. Again, great place and grateful they’re there. What an outstanding little store. We try to eat organic and gluten free whenever possible which can be hard when on vacation. This store has a little bit of everything including a good selection of organic and gluten free. Yes prices are a little more expensive as your would expect in such a remote area but were much more reasonable than I would have expected.
