Fossil Mercantile Company — Local services in Fossil

A quaint fixture from the past, this is a must visit whenever you pass through Fossil. Established in the early 1900s in a native stone building, aside from having most anything you could need or have forgotten there's many points of interest, from the original cash register, to trophy local taxidermy that aren't for sale, to local quilts that are. The original wood dairy cases and hardwood floors are something you just don't find anymore. Many gifts can be found here as well, from rocks and leatherwork to metal craft and jewelry, as well as hats and clothing featuring both the mercantile and local tourism. This is a combination grocery, convenience, fabric/sewing, clothing, outdoor wear, and general merchandise store all rolled into one. In other words, it is an old-fashioned Mercantile from a bygone era that still exists here in Fossil. We were staying at a nearby camp and needed some bath towels, and by golly they had them, and for only $6 each! We also picked up some snacks when we were there. This store may actually have everything! Which, given its location in a small (but awesome) isolated town in Eastern Oregon is saying something.
