THIS IS SPARTA!!! ...for toilets... PART 2 (from mom's account because Google has a character limit)
After I finished my work, I purchased a drink on the way out. I told the associate it seemed like she took that lady asking for a bathroom key pretty hard. I asked Ariana how old she really thought that lady was? Suddenly, Ariana experienced a rush of self-consciousness, she didnât want to answer. I asked her what she thinks âelderlyâ means? And who sets that standard? This child, who had been bloviating so voraciously just minutes before about âthat girlâ who dared to request the restroom key, was now speechless. She didn't want to regale me in her tale of woe. So, in front of her colleagues, I answered the question: 65. My mother is 65 (b. 1959, turns this September). According to the federal government, sheâs elderly. That is who sets that standard.
Furthermore, my mother has gastroenterological disease. Millions of Americans are in this category and it encompasses a range of illnesses and ages - from baby to elderly - this is a population who needs to use that restroom and you donât get to decide if theyâre worthy just by looking at them. Surely, a young lady who goes out of her way to pronounce her name with her native dialect can understand you can't judge books by their covers. Right? Diversity exists beyond phenotypical assumptions. I hope Ariana gains something from this experience about her own preconceived notions and I hope the poor guidance from that management team doesn't leave a lasting impression.
This was ageist and flat out ableist. I guarantee if that young lady had been in a store with her disabled, elderly mother, and the associate had been so oblivious, she'd have been angry too. It's always different when it's you and yours. No one wants to see their mother treated this way. Shame on you all. Such ugliness when you're convinced no one is watching or listening....
Read moreDollar Generals are not the best store, but thatâs the expectation, itâs a convenience store. This specific dollar general however, sets the bar for how $hitty a convenience store could possibly be. Iâll risk my life going to the 7/11 before I ever shop here again. Theyâre almost never open when theyâre supposed to be, thereâs always $hit all over the floor and stocking carts left strewn around the floor dangerously, Iâve never met ONE nice employee there even when going with my 70 year old grandmother the $hit they have said to her would have got my mouth wrung out with soap for like a toddler, they have no problem selling EXPIRED FOOD, the employees are never at the checkout line and take 5-10 minutes on average to come up to the front only to ask you to use the self checkout machine (thatâs only card), and all this is just an average shopping trip there. Tonight my husband was kicked out of the store (while they were still open) and he even told them âyou all donât close until 10, itâs 9:53 and Iâm just grabbing a cokeâ she kicked him out anyways saying âtoo bad weâre already closedâ I called the store to see what was going on, it took me 6 calls just to get them to answer, and then she proceeded to lie to me saying âit was past 9:55 and I told him he could have 5 minutes and then we are closingâ when I told her that I was literally on the phone with him when he walked in and I heard her tell him to get out she changed her story up real quick and said âwell my manager doesnât care if I close 5 minutes earlyâ and then hung up on me. Hopefully thatâs the whole truth for her and her manager because either way itâs already been reported to Corporate, and Iâd hate to see a GM get in trouble for violating Dollar General Corporate Handbook (which I googled and read thoroughly) because an employee wanted to lie about kicking customers out with âpermissionâ from...
Read moreAt risk of being recognized from the internet and potentially treated poorly in the future; my experiences have always been hit-or-miss. The cash registers are slow and there isn't a designated cashier when shelves need to be stocked so there's almost always a wait to be served. I worked retail, I worked minimum wage for far too much labor, I get it. I wouldn't rate poorly just for that. My experience today however was significantly worse. The store manager was the one working with no other employees in view. I work in package/mail delivery, so obviously bathrooms are a hard pressed commodity to find throughout a 10+ hour shift. The store manager asked me if I would be paying cash or card before I said I actually needed the bathroom. She tries to tell me, "You can't be using my bathroom for free. Didn't you know that?" First off, I was planning on buying something to get me a sugar rush but I'd obviously want it After using a bathroom. Secondly, as long as I'm delivering to that area I'm there multiple times a week. Of course I'm buying stuff as long as the registers are accepting cards, which they weren't for over a week. We're both on the clock; why be spreading a bad attitude? And why get all possessive over a bathroom? So someone stole the key a couple of months back. So there are probably people who have left it amess. I had nothing to do with it and it's no reason to...
