Everything about Wild Animal Sanctuary is great on many levels. We went on a cold, wet, windy day; not the best. A Siberian Grizzly had just popped up from hibernation. We watched 3 bobcats. Not too far down the overhead walkway, the Bolivian Lion House was a sanctuary for us, out of the weather, with 8-10 lions below snuggling and roaring. Saw other lions and a tiger in the distance outside, a couple foxes and leopards and a jaguar, but gave in to the weather early and headed home. Check Keenesburg weather forecast before you go. Wear a hat and sunscreen even when it's cloudy. Dress in layers. Gloves are good. Lip balm may be essential. Plan at least 4 hours...
Read moreIncredible place. The animals are free to roam around their grounds. The weather was great, and the bears were just starting to get around from their winter hibernation. Well treated animals to be observed. All the pictures I posted, are from the high rise walk-way, so you won't disturb the animals. Long walk from one entrance to the end, but well worth it. No dogs or any other animal's allowed in the park(due to the nature of the park and what it has. Plan for at least 3 hours of your time, to really enjoy the place. Read moreI can't say enough about this place! Are you a photographer who wants shots that are marred by a fence? This is this place for you! Do you enjoy seeing animals that are rescued and very well cared for? This is the place for you! They have a mile and a half elevated walkway to view the massive enclosures that the animals are in (we are talking acreage, as in 20 acres for a pride of lions). The sounds of the lions roaring the wolves and coyotes howling, and the tigers growling were really impressive! Did I mention the bears...
