This was an amazing road trip from Monument Valley where we are staying. Our first stop was Goosenecks State Park, which was nice, but nothing compared to this. It took us almost 45 minutes to cover the 10 or so miles from the main road. The initial climb up with switchbacks on the narrow gravel road with no railing can be a bit terrifying. Especially for someone like me with vertigo and I'm afraid of heights. But it was worth it (as a side note, the drive down is much better as the driver is typically on the side of the mountain, not the cliff). Once you get to the top of the switchbacks, the drive flattens out. But it doesn't get any smoother. If anything, it is rougher and the speed decreases. Once you get to the lookout, it is just awe inspiring. Amazing views in all directions of the San Juan River, Monument Valley, and the Valley of the Gods (our next trip). Make sure you have good tires, some decent ground clearance, and patience. And if there is rain in the forecast, I wouldn't even try...
Read moreMuley Point Overlook via the Moki Dugway. A little bit scary road to access it..... trailers are not recommended, or campers for that matter but we didn't listen...... good brakes are must! You can camp up here also, but it was a little too windy for us the day we visited. Not very popular maybe since we only saw one other vehicle up there. It was a highlight of our...
Read moreCame across this site while visiting Monument Valley, staying near Mexican Hat. Expansive panoramic views, with distant views of Monument Valley. The road to Muley Point from the main road is loose dust in places and will become impassable mud after heavy rains, so we only spent 30-45 minutes due to an approaching front. Still though, undeniable beauty, and I can't imagine the stargazing opportunities from here. Hope to be back to spend the...
