I highly recommend taking Arizona Route 89A, starting from the exit (Exit 337) off I-17 S. Head south through the stunning Griffin Springs area, passing Harding Spring Trail and continuing through the breathtaking West Fork of Oak Creek. You'll eventually reach Slide Rock State Park, a popular yet still somewhat hidden gem known for its natural rock water slides and beautiful swimming areas.

Along the way, you’ll find several campgrounds nestled in the forest, perfect for an overnight stop or a peaceful break. The views throughout this stretch are absolutely phenomenal—towering red rock cliffs, winding canyons, and scenic forest drives.

If you continue past Slide Rock, the route takes you into Sedona, where you’ll encounter even more incredible vistas. From Sedona, you can extend your trip by heading toward Jerome, a historic mining town perched on the side of a mountain.

Important note: Do not attempt this route with a vehicle over 40 feet long or while towing anything larger than 40 feet. There are restrictions, especially over Mingus Mountain, and the road is narrow and winding.

Despite being a long and often slow drive, this journey is absolutely worth it for the scenery and the unique...

Was out visiting with some friends from the UK and we came to this popular spot for some photo opts. My friends had never been to this location before so I played the tour guide. Parking is pretty easy, there are bathrooms located pretty close to the main area. The Native American booths are set up nicely and the sellers are pretty friendly. We were lucky because the yellow flowers were out illuminating the meadows with their glory. The views of the canyon below are very nice and the red rock sandstone below is great. The basalt wall to the left of the overlook is pretty impressive. Nice breeze, saw butterflies, hawks and ravens. Great area for a break from driving. I...

"We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open." • The greenest part of Sedona! 😍 The view from Oak Creek Vista reminds me of home. Known as the "Gateway to Sedona", this overlook has to be anyone's 1st stop. • For more outdoor adventures,...
