I'm sitting in my hotel room thinking about my visit with Paako this morning. First and foremost, first impression was with Mr Jeff Biggs and his hospitality. We drove 9 hours come visit this golf course and we got there a hour before they were open. We were walking around the practice area and around nine green and 10 tees. We are early birds. All the maintenance guys waived and greeted us. He brought us in the proshop and made us feel welcomed. We were the second time tee time of the day and the foursome in front us let us start first. That was a nice gesture. Just great vibes overall on the entire day. All the cart guys were very personable as well. All staff was great.. The course.. Absolutely in prestine condition. This course is hard. I'm not a scratch golfer. I'm more about the new course and experience. 100% get out here. I've been following Paako for several years on Instagram and finally decided to get out here. Yes, it's pricey, but my heart is happy. I played even par on the last 6 holes. I hit it to 3 feet on the 220ish yard par 3 #14 and missed my birdie putt. Lmao. Thinking about it now, wished we played played all 27, but we will be back. Thanks for the hospitality. Oh lunch was great too. Had the burger. Til next...
Read moreLiving in Albuquerque, I used to play this course around 5-6 times a year, at least one of those rounds with a group of out-of-state friends. The course is spectacular, and although the course was pricey by local standards, the 3 for 2 deal made the pill easier to swallow, particularly for such an excellent course. Well, no longer. Since the club was acquired by the Alvarez & Marsal Investment group of New York City, the green fees have skyrocketed and there is no longer a reward for frequent play, or even a discount for twilight play. This firm has priced their course out of the reach of most local golfers. Given that there are several exceptional courses (Sandia Resort, Twin Warriors, and UNM Championship) that nearer to Albuquerque and have green fees that are at least $50 less expensive then Paako Ridge, I am sad to say neither myself nor any of my friends plan on playing this course again at the current rates. Shame on the new owners!
March 2021 Addendum: To add insult to injury, the mangement has added a $50 surcharge to the already outrageous (for New Mexico) greens fee. Residents now pay $250, while non-residents pay (only) $200 for 18 holes. Just go private, and stop...
Read moreI have been to this golf course on three different occasions. The first two occasions were great. The customer service was wonderful and we were personally greeted by the manager. However, on our 3rd visit it was completely different. I didn’t see the manager walking around and by the way everything was different I could tell they were not under the same management. We were not greeted as we were before. We were not approached at the golf range to get our drinks as we were before. To order our drinks the customer service was bare minimum. After our golf game we had dinner. The dinner was not great. They served the catch of the day without skinning the fish, or without removing the head or tail. The food lacked flavor and was simply bland. What is frustrating is how New Mexicans have to pay a higher rate and out of staters have a lower rate. I have been to many golf resorts that were expensive and it was worth it. Paying $250 for golf was not worth it. Paying near to $500 for the dinner was not at all worth it. I really hope the previous manager comes back because without him it is just not worth it, which is sad. Paying near to $1500-$2000 for this experience...
