Gearhart's Meats and Country Store — Local services in Frankstown Township

This place is an amazing hidden gem of the Altoona area, heck Central Pennsylvania. They have a smoke house, they smoke everything. They have amazing meats and cheeses. They make their own bacon and pepperonis. They have this roast beef that is so good, I had just one bite of it and I wanted to swim in a vat of it. They also have - surprisingly - a cajun crab dip that is to die for. It's so delicious, with just the right amount of spice and meaty chunks of crab meat. It's perfection on a whole grain cracker. When I was there with my husband we also got some of their smoked cheddar. I made it later into a smoked chipotle macaroni and cheese...soooo good. No liquid smoke here folks. Since the moment I dropped my deer off to be processed here, the staff was rude and unpleasant. The meat I received back is good, which is why this is a 2 star review and not a one star.

I am not sure if everyone was just having a bad day on the multiple times I showed up to get my various cuts of my deer back, or if that is their usual demeanor. Also, each phone call I received to let me know the processing was done, was also met with rudeness.

Like I said, I am not sure if this was atypical, but that was my experience here and I will most definitely...

High 3.75...Great food, good people, and lots of interesting items. Had lunch here a few times. I was told to pre-order my burger because it would take a long time. Well, it still took very very long even though I pre-ordered. Pretty sure they Freshly ground the beef when I arrived 25 minutes after I called in my order.
