Portage Service Plaza — Local services in Freedom Township

Not really sure how to start this so I’ll just get straight to the point. I was using the mens restroom at the Portage service plaza this morning and when I went to pick up my shorts after using the restroom and my shorts were soaked with someone else’s urine that was on the floor in front of the toilet. I had to get my mother to come into the men’s restroom to give me a change of shorts. Had to rinse out my soaked shorts in the bathroom sink. I went to the desk at the shop they have inside and the only reason I’m not giving this a one star is because of the lady working behind the desk. She was very apologetic and she helped me get a phone number for the manager of the service plaza named Bob. Bob was also apologetic but had no solution other than they have showers at the plaza that I could have used. I went back inside the restroom after talking with Bob to wash off my legs and my shoes and once I had began cleaning off my legs an older gentleman came in and was wearing a grey Ohio turnpike shirt so I turned to him and asked him if he had spoke with Bob about the urine on the floor and he said “yes but I don’t see anything on the floor, looks like it’s gone”. To which I replied yes sir it is because my shorts soaked most of it up and then I cleaned the rest with toilet paper so I could have a clean floor to put new shorts on. He gave me the same “you could use the showers if you like”. Would have been nice if instead of just “looking” they would have sent someone to just clean the bathroom. Hopefully this post will save someone else from going through what I just had to go through. Or maybe it will get the Portage staff to clean their bathrooms a...

Do not eat at this McDonalds!!! First, they are either understaffed or not motivated, but the wait was ridiculous Second, they make food to order (if they even have the item you wanted to order in stock) so nothing is ready... ...and they scrape the fries from the surrounding area back into the bin they dish them from. There were 2 containers of fries sitting on the counter for some reason when we got in line (3 people ahead of us) 15-20min later they were not on the counter and they miraculously now had enough fries to serve my 2 kids. No gloves worn by frie handler (couldn't see the one other worker back in the kitchen). No lids, no napkins, only half a cup of sweet tea left. AND this was the service station that had the bathrooms down. We thought they might have better service because they might not get as many customers today. The gentleman and his son behind us said this is their 3rd visit over a long period of time and it is "always like this." Luckily when I asked, he said they've not gotten sick there.

The sevice workers were profrssional with their interactions and probably doing the best they could, but it was poorly managed regarding restocking, foresight on how much to cook & stock of basics when line is wrapping around, and educating staff on better hygiene practices.

The plaza in general was clean so I gave it 2 stars, notification of bathrooms being down was given via road signage ahead of time which was nice (although next plaza with bathrooms was 30mi further). Gas pumps were fine. Other customers were irritating though because they would pump and leave their car to go into the plaza and not pull off to park after...
