The original review found below the three stars still holds true. However, my 2-star rating has finally been lowered to 1 star with the following 5-point update: The excuse for a Cafè is sad. While there is now a register, it seldom has anyone taking care of it. The food is self-serve items. The number of customers eating there is rarely above zero. The places for general merchandise throughout the store are frequently empty or nearly so. Simple items, such as common soft drinks in the beverage cooler are routinely out of stock for a week, two weeks, or more. The number of stock boys is obviously too low to allow for general proficency. One employee told me that several have quit. I have finally been forced to move my business to a neighboring area. While this is inconvenient, it has reached the point that I simply have no choice. Neiman's was previously owned by the Wingert family, and it was a great experience. I have shopped there for over 50 years. Once the business left the hands of the Wingert family, things took a serious nosedive. Connection with the local community is absolutely beyond the comprehension of the Neiman family. They have a total corporate mindset versus local commitment.
New management team members are regularly selected from those living afar, not locally. This idea, alone, discourages locals.
Some longtime employees are seeking refuge by leaving. Longtime customers are simply hanging their heads in disappointment and driving the extra miles to WalMart.
The Subway inside the store has been replaced with a poor excuse for a promised cafe.
The interior of the store is clean and attractive. However, as of the posting of this review, the exterior of the building still needs a paint job to cover both the old Wingert name and large area where the Subway sign was mounted. Yes, Neiman's does sell paint.
Two stars is my maximum rating. This is a small rural community bonded in closeness, not corporate money...
Read moreCame up there today 9/22/24 about 430 to get a fried chicken dinner. The entire view was disgusting but the hard crusty mashed potatoes was an insult. You folks think anyone's gonna eat any if that?! I asked the girl what's up with this crusty food and she said her cook hasn't had a chance to change it. At 430 which is dinnertime yall got a entire crusty stale menu you're trying to sale. Then some tiny girl with long dark hair came from around the counter and practically chase me walking by the milk asking me have I ever worked at a grocrey store. I completely ignored her like she did that stale food. You got some real winners working at the deli right now. I miss wingerts. Your foodbis too high, crusty and stale plus the entire store smells like rotten milk or old potatoes I wasn't sure which. Wingerts never had any of these issues. I will never come back in there. Good luck with your nasty store.
Update: the ole man stopped in there on the way home from work last night 12/22/24 to buy creamer and I'm not surprised one bit that it's expired. I'll go to walmart today to buy more but he's done with yall now too. Smh. Yall be extra vigilant buying overpriced expired items in this store. I...
Read moreI've been going to Wingert's since I was a kid. There was gumball machines at both entrances. A coin game, lottery machine, coin exchange, and a claw machine in the main entrance. They are still there, but at least once when I when in there was a display with some very scented cinnamon sticks. It made me want to take the side entrance.
It took forever for the signs to be changed, the hardware section was closed for a hot minute after the ownership changed if I remember right, they also took away the Subway and made it into a café. I'm not sure if that has opened yet still. The deli is still open so is the bakery. Though its hard finding the donuts not being all gone or having the vanilla ones right next to chocolate or the nuts coated ones. I do love looking at the decorated cakes though!
I used to shop here, but after management changed prices are definitely higher. I only really come for the bottle returns now a days. They do have a cork board where u can put advertisements on the wall by the bottle return. I might try the deli again and the café if it...
