Where to begin? My family and I are avid golfers as I have worked in the golf course industry for many years. We decided to try this course while on vacation in WV (it is located right across MD/WV state lines). Prior to our 1 pm tee time, I call the clubhouse to confirm if they had a bar, snack bar, or restaurant because this place is really in the middle of nowhere. The lady blatantly stated "no" when I asked if they sell snacks or pre-made sandwiches. After grabbing a quick pizza in the neighboring town, we walk into the clubhouse and see about 4 men sitting at the bar getting hot dogs, snacks and drinks to go. Okay, so maybe this lady was confused when asked if they serve any kind of food there. So we stand there in front of this lady who absolutely refuses to acknowledge us or look at us in any way. Ten minutes pass and she pretends to do busy work at the bar. The clubhouse was pretty much empty aside from the 4 guys who took their bags of goodies and ran. Finally, a gentleman came in (either golf course maintenance or ranger) and she yells to him "deal with them" (while still refusing to acknowledge us). Poor guy apologized and proceeded to take our beer orders. He apologized again as the 6 pack of Yeungling we ordered were skunk beer and he didn't want to sell it to us. Hence, only option was Miller Lite or Coors Lite. So off we go, without one hint of direction or anything. We literally had to ask where the first tee was. Keep in mind that the lady who refused to acknowledge us but helped others had still not said one word, smile, apology or anything. So we thought it was weird and as we head to the first tee, decided to blow it off. The course itself is a little challenging with plenty of slopes. Some parts of the fairways were roped off hinting that muddy areas prevent usage of carts within the area. The bathroom on the course was in terrible shape. You could not flush the toilet as the smell of accumulated urine nearly knock you off your feet. There is not toilet paper or running water. There are no water coolers on the course or little "luxuries" that I experience on every other course I've been to. As we come across hole 8, that same wretched woman comes hauling towards us screaming "cart path! cart path!!" in her loudest voice. As I look at her, I clearly acknowledge that we were middle of the fairways where other carts had been and had not passed the restricted area by the greens. She then screamed at me stating no carts on the fairways at all and then drives off. I don't like to scream racism but as an inter-married family (I'm Scottish/Filipina and my husband is white), we couldn't help but feel she didn't like us at all due to my race. No others got the nasty attitude that was bestowed upon us. Now, as a golf professional who has dealt with tournaments and have played a multitude of courses all over the nation, it is imperative that communication of course daily rules should have been conveyed at the beginning of the round. If she had acknowledged our existence from the start, we would have gladly obliged to follow rules if this information would have been relayed. Because this course is long and wide, it took forever finish the course. No rangers are on hand to check on the place of play. The 5 some in front of us would take 2-5 shots each. We finally decided to skip a few holes and try to head out as the experience had already been awful. Upon finishing the 18th hole, the clubhouse was locked and we had zero clue as to where to return the carts. Once again, no directions were given at the start of play. We took a guess and left it in a space with matching numbers. Aside from the pleasant gentleman who finally took the time to take care of us, this place is not worth the experience. The woman took it to a whole other level of unprofessionalism that left a seriously bad impression. My suggestion is to give your business to other courses where you get better value...

Looking at other recent reviews, I'm guessing the course conditions vary greatly depending on weather. But if you can catch them on a good week this the best course in the area. Im a member at Rocky Gap, but in some ways i like this better. The course is so interesting (and challenging) that it's worth giving it a try. The price is great too. So proud to have a course like this in my neighborhood. Bring bug...
