Came into Jax to visit family after Christmas. My brother and cousins have an annual tradition of playing golf during our visit. We have played myriad of courses across Jax over the decades, including the Champions Club at Julington Creek before it was bought by Brown Golf.
With my cousin living in Julington Creek now, we scheduled this years golf outing at this course again. We teed off on time at 8:34. From the first hole to the last, we never had anyone in front of us. We have all been playing golf for over 20 years and are well aware of keeping pace.
We had a great competitive round shooting 82, 86, and 87. We had the ranger come by once on the front and twice on the back (last time was 15th hole). We could all feel that we were slightly behind the pace. However, nothing was ever said when he came by. We also came in contact with the group behind us on the 9th and asked them if they wanted to play through. They responded their they were just fine.
When we arrived to the 18th tee box, a different ranger pulled up and explained that we needed to “finish out” because we were “an hour over the pace”! We were surprised and asked if he meant ‘pick our balls up’? He continued to explain that they were “out of carts” and needed us back now. After explaining that we teed off at 8:34, and that it was currently 1:05, we understood we were off pace, but not by an hour! We politely took the information and explained our intention to finish the hole. The ranger said that we would have to “answer to the manager” on that.
We played the hole quickly. Then, as we were literally putting out, a woman walked on to the green with a dog on a leash. She yelled, “you are done”! She, “Sarah”, said she needed the carts back and to not finish putting. Our LAST putt!!!!
In 25 years of the game, I have never been told that we are fine on the 15th hole and then approached on the 18th green, by a manager with a dog, telling me not to finish my putt. COMPLETELY unprofessional and straight RUDE!
We were all absolutely perplexed. After turning our carts in, we felt it necessary to seek further explanation and understanding for the treatment. As soon as we walked in the pro shop, Sarah explained that they were super busy and needed the carts back. When I attempted to ask for reasoning and the lack of communication, she immediately replied, “leave or I’m calling the police”!!!! The POLICE!!! We all looked at each other in absolute disbelief. We came in to seek an explanation. We’re not argumentative or confrontational, and were threatened to have the police called on us! What the heck just happened here?!?!
We simply left, vowing to share our experience as I am doing here. If our treatment was a reaction due to a stressed out poor manager (ran out of carts) during a busy holiday period, then that is unacceptable IMHO. Decent course. But, needless to say, our outing will not be returning to...
Read moreThis is an honest review believe it or not from playing date of 3/30/2025:
Driving Range / Practice facilities: 1 out of 5 The mats are like hitting off concrete and the "grass" part of the range is quite literally dirt and weeds/crab grass patches. If you play in the area and know that South Hampton's range is horrible; well this makes South Hampton's range look like TPC. Practice putting green by first tee is dead and has 30% dirt patches
Course Conditions: 1.5 out of 5 Course was overall in horrible shape. The only saving grace is that SOME of the greens were in decent condition: that is being generous. Most of the greens are edged in dirt and have sand/dirt patches on the greens. The only thing they do well is put the pins in places with actual grass, but half the green is unplayable. The bunkers that did exists were okay, but fairways were cut down areas of rough. The grass out here is not grass, it is just weeds cut to different lengths. Tee boxes are atrocious as well.
Pace of Play: 3 out of 5 This was only because we were the only group that went out due to a storm that was supposed to come through. We got done in 3 hours before the storm came in, which was nice, but you can't expect that to happen often. Just got lucky
Pricing and Payment: 0 out of 5 Every course is gouging people for green fees, but its a slap in the face to your patrons when your course looks like you haven't put any money into it in over 10 months and you still charge $80 per person for a tee time. This is barely worth $50 per person as is. The other big issue is that the ownership of this and Windsor Parke insist on forcing people to prepay during booking. It is an absurd requirement and forces people to true up costs with each other instead of with the course. If you are going to do that, you should allow the other players to pay at the course and only prepay if...
Read moreI hate giving one star- reviews , I played Julington Creek Golf Course today it rained like heck. I went into the clubhouse since we played 10 holes to get a partial rain check. They said we do not give rain checks after 3 PM. Yet our tee time was 1:22 and their website clearly states they do NOT REFUND TEE TIMES after 3 PM. So for $10 a person they lost a customer and it’s a shame they have a long history of this.
From Julington Creek Golf Club - Website Rain checks will not be given for twilight tee times (after 3 PM) Personal coolers are not allowed All golf carts are due back in by 8:30 PM By reserving a tee time, you are accepting responsibilty for the golf cart that is assigned to you and that you will be responsible to pay for any damage to the golf cart or the golf course caused by negligent acts. All tee times are charged in full at the time of booking. No additional fees are due at the course for your rounds of golf.
I originally gave them a 1 star review but received this email. We all make mistakes and they came back strong !
Good evening, Tony
I saw your review on Google and I wanted to let you know that you are correct. The employee working inside did incorrectly enforce the policy. You should have been issued rain checks today when the storm came through. I will set up rain checks and email them to you this weekend. I just wanted to reach out as soon as possible to try and ease some of your frustration from the situation.
I am sorry for the poor experience that you had to end your round today and I hope you enjoy the rest of your evening...
