I have played this course multiple times. Enjoyed it in the past even if it isn't the nicest of courses. Brought a couple buddies to play here for the first time. Had a fun round until we got to the last hole. I guess the late shift marshal started his shift and decided to be extremely rude to the customers. Morning marshal had no issues with us all day and we saw him multiple times. We were putting and the marshal comes out to yell at us for parking by the green. By the green I mean a good 10-15 yards off the green behind the hole where there is no part of a course or a hole. He hypocritically drove up to our carts to tell us not to park where he was currently parked. Told us "you are gone" like he had warned us all day for this or something. Needless to say we wont be back. Not due to the course quality or price but due to this one idiot who has some sort of little man syndrome. There are plenty of options to play at other courses for us in Sherman/Denison and believe me we will not go out of our way to drive to Gainesville ever again. Maybe next time I will just park on the large sand trap they have in the middle of the green where we are supposed to be putting. If they keep this kind of person on staff this course will be nothing but an afterthought in the near future.
EDIT: Changed my review to 5 stars. The marshal mentioned in my above review is now gone. We have played at this course many times this year and it has always been a positive experience. The guys working the proshop/grounds are really nice and manage the...
Read moreDon't let your initial impression fool you. I've played in a number of states and in the UK. This course is much better than I thought it would be when I drove up to it the first time. It is plenty long, and the layout is better than most fancier courses I've played. There are holes that reward the ability to fade the ball, there are holes that reward the ability to draw the ball, and there are one or two holes that reward you if you want to challenge the trees and hit over them. Most of the greens are relatively small and elevated. The lies are tight and the ground is firm, so you won't get away with hitting the ball a little fat. I also liked the course because most of the people I saw played pretty quickly. I walked both times I played, and finished 18 holes in less than 3 hours both times. The staff are friendly and the prices are very, very reasonable. I would have given the course a five if the greens were in better shape and if the sand in the bunkers was in better shape. But I played in March; perhaps those deficiencies will be corrected before the main golfing...
Read moreI’ve played this course a few times and always enjoyed myself, despite the oft-mentioned cart paths in disrepair and several sub-par greens. The course is very beginner-friendly and easy to shoot, the fairways are wide, and the layout isn’t too challenging. Unfortunately, my most recent trip saw a fairly substantial jump in green fees — $40/player! As much as I enjoy shooting this course, the overall condition of it doesn’t justify a $40 green fee. I really hope they consider either lowering the price to something more fitting/reasonable, or making improvements to the course to justify this new price hike, otherwise they’ll likely lose my business except for perhaps the occasional weekday scramble. Definitely recommend playing it at least once if you’re in the area and have an itching to...
