I’ve been traveling and visiting plant nurseries all across the US as a hobby gardener for many years now. After taking time off, booking a room and driving several hours to the KC area our first stop (the one we were most excited for) was the most disappointing… The Flower Farm was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had at a nursery. First of all, it was very muddy, dirty, with narrow walkways, standing water puddles, unstable and even loose pavers for you to walk on. The whole nursery is very difficult to navigate, especially if elderly or disabled. They even have signs saying no carts/wagons allowed in certain areas because the pathways are so narrow two people can hardly meet one another walking them. Let alone a wagon/cart. Our group had an all around terrible shopping experience. Even if they have a plant you want to buy, it’s difficult to discern whether or not it’s actually for sale. I understand that propagation is part of running a nursery. What I do NOT understand is haphazardly throwing plants of all varieties and all growth stages throughout several greenhouses so sloppily that as consumers, myself and everyone in our group struggled to find -anything- that was both available, and clearly marked available for purchase. Needless to say; we all left disappointed, and empty handed. Luckily we were able to venture up closer to KC and found several nurseries who not only had sooo many beautiful, lush, healthy, plants But they were also clearly marked with a price for purchase. I don’t see anyone in our group recommending or returning to The Flower...
Read moreMy 2nd visit was horrible (June 9th 2021 - exactly 1 year later)... The son is very, very, very rude...and they act like they don't want you to buy their plants now...the prices have beyond skyrocketed and the plant craze of 2020 due to the pandemic has gone to their heads. I even called ahead and told them we were driving the 3 1/2 hours up and made sure they were going to be open. Keith even made a comment that I should have called ahead... I DID and I talked to an older female... Any why exactly do I need to call ahead??? I had over $150 worth of plants that brought up to the cashier to buy and after the treatment by both Keith and his son I put back $100 worth of plants and bought them elsewhere. I was sooooo looking forward all year to get to go as I live just outside Tulsa and it's a 3 1/2 hour trip one way... I even bragged to my best friend and we went together... I will no longer tell people how wonderful this place is and encourage them to take the trip. I will never go there again. If I could rate 0 stars I would!!! Updated Review with 2nd visit on 6/9/21 Below was my 1st visit June 9th, 2020 Fantastic Nursery. Keith is extremely nice, knowledgeable and very helpful. Their prices are very reasonable. We drove up from Tulsa, Oklahoma and it was worth the drive! Look forward to going up again. Very healthy extensive...
Read moreA friend of mine told me about this place and their amazing collection of rare plants, so of course I had to check it out.
It is a little bit of a drive but totally worth it! As soon as you walk in, it is sensory overload of exquisite beautiful plants…and then your are greeted by the residential fur babies! I WAS IN HEAVEN! We were greeted my a older gentleman, who asked if it was our first time and then gave us the grand tour. He walked us through the green houses and explained their lay out and system on where plants were and which were available for sale. The collection of plants and the care they take was absolutely refreshing. There was nothing commercial or sales pressuring about the experience. Every customer felt like a plant friend where we were all talking about our favorites while getting great plant care info from another gentleman that worked there. He took time with us to talk plant care one on one and gave us some tips that he found worked well for his propagating process.
My biggest regret is that I did not get any of the employees names so I can call them our personally. But everyone was great, friendly and helpful that worked there. Prices I felt were completely reasonable given the care they take in their plants.
And yes wear shoes your don’t mind getting dirty, and be ready to fall in love with plants...
