I went in for some eyeliner on halloween before work. I was nervous about it because I am pregnant and have an overactive immune system, so the risk of an overreaction to a virus could be deadly. The risk of complications for me, and God forbid, pregnancy loss is quite high. First, the employees were not wearing mask. That was the first red flag that they don't care about their patrons, although I am used to seeing that by now so I just take more precautions. There were 3 employees in the aisles stocking shelves and I could hear them complaining about customers leaving products in the wrong places. Another red flag, but really no big deal so far. I went to the front, but the chattering on the aisles continued even though I could see they were just standing there talking and they could see I went to the front of the store by the registers. I decided to take a look at a few more products instead of just standing at the register. Many minutes later, when all three came to the front, I went back to the front to checkout. I walked passed them, and one said hello to me. I waited at the register for several minutes. They were in front of a different register, still talking. I thought they must not see me even though they said hello, or they aren't using this register even though it is the only one that appeared open, so I walked back to where they were standing. After continuing to talk, they finally looked my way. One of them said, in a somewhat snide and rude manner, "I'll get you that register, ma'am." and pointed. I said, "Oh, okay. Great. Thanks!" Finally. She then continued talking - not about urgent work topics - and when she stopped talking I felt a surge of relief. She turned around without looking at me, and walked in the opposite direction (what?). The other two employees were still just standing there. I thought she must be coming right back. Still I have been nothing but patient and polite outwardly at this point, even with the condescending tones.
She didn't come back. Again, the other two ladies were standing around looking un-busy. I checked my phone, and saw how much time had been wasted first thing in the morning before I needing to start at my own job, just for a quick trip to grab an eyeliner for Halloween. I couldn't continue to wait without knowing how long it was going to take, and how long I would need to stand near two-three maskless gossiping employees. There were zero other customers the entire time I was there. I am a very kind and patient person, but this was the worst I've ever been treated in a store. I can only assume it was because of my mask or something? It is hard to imagine all three are the worst employees in the world. Some people have to wear masks, especially to protect a family member, themselves, or an unborn child. It is wrong to refuse the most vulnerable people service because of politics. Be a little kinder, have more compassion and empathy. Also, my feet were swollen for several days after that from standing too still for a long time - and I didn't even get to buy the stuff I had in my hands. I had to go to another store to get eyeliner, and then I was almost late to work even though I had allotted 1 hour to get eyeliner and get home. I normally don't do reviews like this, but it did make me pretty sad at a time when I felt hugely pregnant, swollen, afraid, and sleepy. I did cry for a bit afterwards mostly from hormones, but also because I am afraid that many of us appear to be losing humanity and kindness when I am about to bring a child...
Read moreThis location of Dollar General is exceptional. It provides a helpful location for items when a full grocery store is not necessary because this is so close to so many people. Just the fact that so many of these Dollar General stores have popped up in rural areas is wonderful. My store in particular has helpful employees who are quick to assist in any manner necessary. There are plenty of grocery items available like a host of cereals, soft drinks including a name brand milk and even ice cream! The sundries are plentiful as are the household cleaning items along with poster board for school projects. A great...
